Pipedrive was the name ChatGPT and Gemini reached for most often, landing in 4 of the 6 answers we collected when we asked them to recommend CRM software on 3 August 2026. No other single label matched it.
We put six buyer questions to ChatGPT and Gemini, gave each question one live web search, and wrote down every product they named and every source domain they cited. Six questions, and everything below is the tally of those six answers, nothing added.
Behind Pipedrive, four labels tied at 3 of 6: HubSpot, HubSpot CRM, Salesforce and Zoho CRM. That HubSpot split matters. The assistants wrote "HubSpot CRM" in 3 answers and plain "HubSpot" in 3 others, and we are keeping them as two separate rows rather than adding them into a number the run never actually printed. Zoho shows the same habit, appearing as "Zoho CRM" (3 of 6), plain "Zoho" (1 of 6) and "Bigin by Zoho CRM" (1 of 6). If you sell a CRM, the assistants may be splitting your brand across several spellings, and each spelling competes for a mention on its own.
Zendesk was the only other product named more than once, at 2 of 6. Below it, 25 different products were each named exactly once, or 17% of the run apiece. That long tail is the real shape of this category, so let us look at how it moved question by question.
How the shortlist changed with the question
The six questions were close paraphrases, yet the shortlists barely overlapped. The plain "best crm software" answer named 7 products: Salesforce, HubSpot CRM, ActiveCampaign, ClickUp, Close, Freshdesk Omni and Apptivo. Five of those 7 (ActiveCampaign, ClickUp, Close, Freshdesk Omni and Apptivo) never appeared in any other answer. And Pipedrive, the overall leader at 4 of 6, is not on the bare "best" list at all.
"Best free crm software" was almost its own universe. Of the 8 names in that answer, 7 appear nowhere else in the whole run: Bitrix24, EngageBay, Snov, Flowlu, EspoCRM, Raynet and eWay. Only HubSpot CRM carried over from the paid questions. Add the single word "free" and the assistants throw out nearly the entire mainstream list and pull a fresh set of eight.
"Most affordable crm software" produced the shortest answer, just 5 names: HubSpot, Zoho, Pipedrive, OnePageCRM and monday CRM. OnePageCRM and monday CRM showed up in this answer only, and the bare label "Zoho" appears only here too, since the assistants wrote "Zoho CRM" in the other questions. So "affordable" is where OnePageCRM gets its single mention across the entire run.
"Best crm software for small teams" was the only place Bigin by Zoho CRM, Freshsales, Salesforce Starter and monday.com CRM appeared, each once. "What crm software should I use" was the only home for SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales and SugarCRM. And "crm software recommendations" was the only answer to name Microsoft Dynamics 365, Freshworks and monday.com. Same category, six phrasings, and the exact wording decided who got named far more than any notion of who is biggest.
The takeaway for a marketer: there is no single "best CRM" answer to win. Pipedrive leads by showing up across 4 different phrasings at 4 of 6, not by dominating any one of them. Coverage across the question variants beats a strong showing on a single query.
Where the answers came from
Reddit was cited in all 6 answers, the only source with a perfect run. YouTube followed at 5 of 6. Nothing else came close. After those two, the recurring roundup sites were zapier.com, solutionsreview.com and uschamber.com at 3 of 6 each, then microsoft.com, monday.com, quora.com and salesforce.com at 2 of 6.
Here is the finding we care about most. Several vendors' own domains were cited, and those vendors got named. hubspot.com fed 3 of the 6 answers, and HubSpot was named 3 of 6 as "HubSpot" and 3 of 6 as "HubSpot CRM". salesforce.com fed 2 answers and Salesforce landed 3 of 6. monday.com fed 2 answers and monday was named under three spellings, one mention each. Even pipedrive.com, cited just once, sits behind the overall leader at 4 of 6. Publishing your own genuinely useful comparison page is not wasted effort: the assistants cited it and, in this run, named the vendor that wrote it.
The classic review directories mostly did not show. G2 appeared exactly once, only in the plain "best" answer. Gartner appeared once, in that same answer. Capterra did not appear at all. A single Reddit thread carried more weight here than the directories most CRM vendors pour budget into, because Reddit was in all 6 answers and the directories were in at most 1.
Being a source is not the same as being named, either. creatio.com and 6sense.com were each cited once, but neither Creatio nor 6sense was named in any of the 6 answers. Your page can feed the answer and still not put your product in it.
What this means if you sell CRM software
Being named is a function of which sources the assistants read, not your market share. Salesforce is the giant of this category and still only tied at 3 of 6, behind Pipedrive's 4 of 6. Meanwhile EspoCRM, Flowlu, Raynet and eWay got named purely for sitting on the "best free" pages the assistants happened to open, at 1 of 6 each. The source list decided the shortlist.
So the work is concrete. Get into the two sources that showed up almost everywhere: real Reddit threads (6 of 6) and YouTube (5 of 6). Get onto the roundups that recur, zapier.com, solutionsreview.com and uschamber.com (3 of 6 each). Publish a comparison on your own domain worth citing, the way hubspot.com and salesforce.com did. And do it against each phrasing a buyer might use, because "free", "affordable", "for small teams" and plain "best" each pulled a visibly different list.
The full list, counted

|---|---|---|
| Pipedrive | 4 of 6 | 67% |

| HubSpot CRM | 3 of 6 | 50% |
| Salesforce | 3 of 6 | 50% |
| Zoho CRM | 3 of 6 | 50% |
| Zendesk | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| ActiveCampaign | 1 of 6 | 17% |
| Apptivo | 1 of 6 | 17% |
| Bigin by Zoho CRM | 1 of 6 | 17% |
HubSpot and HubSpot CRM are the same brand under two labels, kept as separate rows because that is how the assistants wrote them, 3 of 6 each. Below Zendesk, 25 products share a single mention each (17%). The table shows the first three the way the measurement ordered them, alphabetically inside that tie; the rest (including monday.com, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Freshworks, SAP, SugarCRM, Bitrix24, OnePageCRM, Close, ClickUp and EspoCRM) are named where they appeared in the fan-out section above.
We do not sell CRM software, so Glotier is correctly absent from all 6 of these answers, and we would not want it faked in. But this page is exactly what we do for a customer's own category: ask the assistants the questions their buyers actually type, then show which products got named and which sources decided it. The same check runs on your category free, with no account, in about a minute.
