Bigin by Zoho CRM and HubSpot Sales Hub were the two products ChatGPT and Gemini named most in the sales engagement category, each appearing in 5 of the 6 answers we collected (83%). We put six buyer questions about sales engagement platforms to those two assistants on 2026-08-03, gave each question one live web search, and recorded every product named and every page cited. No product was named in all six answers.
One step below sat a tight cluster of four, each named in 4 of the 6 answers (67%): Apollo, Outreach, Salesforce Sales Cloud, and Salesloft. Mailshake and Pipedrive followed in 3 of 6 (50%) and Reply in 2 of 6 (33%). So of the 18 distinct names the assistants used, only six reached 4 of the 6 answers or better, and nine were named exactly once.
The same question, asked six ways, changed the shortlist
The most useful thing in this data is not the winner, it is how far the shortlist moved when we changed the wording. Same category, six phrasings, and each phrasing pulled a different set of products.
The bare query, "best sales engagement platforms," returned eight products, and two of them, Outplay and Kaspr, appear in this entire measurement only here. Ask the plain "best" question and you meet two names that show up in none of the other five answers.
"Best sales engagement platforms for small teams" was the true outlier. It named seven products, and five of them, Mixmax, Lemlist, Reply.io, Instantly, and Unify, appear nowhere else across the six answers. It is also the only question where neither leader, HubSpot Sales Hub nor Bigin by Zoho CRM, was named at all. The small-teams framing pulled a completely different, scrappier set of outreach tools.
The "best free" and "most affordable" questions, which you might expect to surface cheap upstarts, did the opposite. "Best free" named seven products and "most affordable" named six, and both were dominated by incumbents: HubSpot Sales Hub, Salesforce Sales Cloud, Bigin by Zoho CRM, Outreach, and Salesloft all appear in both lists. The only label unique to the free answer was Apollo.io, which is the same Apollo the other answers named, written with its domain.
The two open-ended phrasings, "what sales engagement platforms should I use" and "sales engagement platforms recommendations," behaved like the establishment vote. Between them they named the familiar leaders again, Outreach, Salesloft, HubSpot Sales Hub, Bigin by Zoho CRM, Apollo, and Pipedrive, and the only fresh entry either produced was a second Salesforce label, "Salesforce Sales Engagement," which showed up once in the recommendations answer and nowhere else.
Two brands showed up under two different labels, and we kept them separate rather than summing, because the label an assistant chooses is part of what it actually said. Apollo was named 4 times and Apollo.io once. Reply was named twice and Reply.io once. Salesforce appeared as "Salesforce Sales Cloud" in 4 answers and as "Salesforce Sales Engagement" in 1.
Where the answers came from
Two sources fed every single answer: reddit.com and learn.g2.com each appeared in all 6 of the 6 answers (100%). If you want a one-line rule for this category, it is that these assistants read the Reddit threads and the G2 list pages first.
Review directories showed up, but selectively. G2 was everywhere, as learn.g2.com in 6 of 6 answers and its main g2.com in 4 of 6. Gartner appeared in 2 of 6. Capterra did not appear once. So "be on G2" is supported by this data and "be on Capterra" is not.
Community threads carried real weight beyond the directories. reddit.com was in all 6 answers and quora.com in 1 of 6. Unfiltered peer discussion fed the answers at least as often as any vendor's own page did.
Here is the finding we would flag if you sell in this category. salesforce.com was the third most cited source in the whole set, feeding 5 of the 6 answers (83%), and Salesforce's own product was named in 4 of 6. Pipedrive shows the same loop on a smaller scale: pipedrive.com fed 3 of 6 answers and Pipedrive was named in 3 of 6. When a vendor's own domain is one of the pages the assistant reads, that vendor tends to get named back. Your own content is not just marketing here, it is a retrieval source the model quotes.
The rest were independent roundups and blogs: forecastio.ai in 4 of 6 answers, then sybill.ai, pipeline.zoominfo.com, and mixmax.com in 2 each, with single appearances from supered.io, lagrowthmachine.com, guideflow.com, cirrusinsight.com, blog.hubspot.com, and unifygtm.com. No single roundup dominated the way Reddit and G2 did.
What this means if you sell a sales engagement platform
If you run marketing for a tool in this category, the practical takeaway is that the source list, not your market share, decided who got named. Outplay and Kaspr are not bigger than Apollo, but they were named because they sat in the one page an assistant pulled for the "best" query. Instantly and Lemlist got named only because they were in the sources behind the "small teams" answer.
So the work is specific and checkable. Get into the Reddit threads that rank for your category, because reddit.com fed all 6 of 6 answers. Get onto the G2 list pages, which fed 6 of 6 as learn.g2.com. Get named in the roundups these assistants actually read, starting with forecastio.ai at 4 of 6. And keep your own domain quotable, because we watched salesforce.com and pipedrive.com feed the answers that then named Salesforce and Pipedrive.
The full list, counted
| Product | Named in | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Bigin by Zoho CRM | 5 of 6 | 83% |
| HubSpot Sales Hub | 5 of 6 | 83% |
| Apollo | 4 of 6 | 67% |
| Outreach | 4 of 6 | 67% |
| Salesforce Sales Cloud | 4 of 6 | 67% |
| Salesloft | 4 of 6 | 67% |
| Mailshake | 3 of 6 | 50% |
| Pipedrive | 3 of 6 | 50% |
| Reply | 2 of 6 | 33% |
Apollo also appears once as Apollo.io and Reply once as Reply.io. We list them under their own measured counts rather than folding them into the totals above, because that is how the assistants wrote them.
Where Glotier fits
Glotier does not sell a sales engagement platform, so we are correctly absent from all 6 of these answers, and we would be worried if we were not. What you just read is exactly what we run for a customer's own category: the six buyer questions, every product named, and the exact pages behind each answer. If you want to see where your own product stands, the check is free, takes about a minute, and needs no account.
