Four platforms tied for the top of this category: Adobe Advertising Cloud, Amazon DSP, Google Display & Video 360 (DV360) and The Trade Desk were each named in 5 of the 6 answers we recorded. We put six buyer questions about programmatic advertising platforms to ChatGPT and Gemini on 2026-08-06, gave each question one live web search, and wrote down every product named and every source cited. No single platform swept all 6 answers.
StackAdapt was the only other platform to clear half the field, named in 4 of 6 answers (67%). It turned out to be the bridge between the enterprise tier and everything below it: the one product that survived into the "small teams" question, where all four leaders vanished. Every remaining platform we saw was named in 2 of 6 answers or fewer.
The six answers named 19 different platforms in total, but the tail is thin. After the top five, four products tied at 2 of 6 answers (33%) each: Google Ad Manager, Google Ads, Magnite and Simpli.Fi. The other 10 platforms were each named in exactly 1 of 6 answers (17%), so a single sub-question was enough to put a name on the board.
Google shows up three separate times under three product names: DV360 at 5 of 6 answers (83%), Google Ad Manager at 2 of 6 (33%) and Google Ads at 2 of 6 (33%). We count them as three products because that is how the answers named them, and we do not fold them into one "Google" figure the data never gave us.
The shortlist changed with the wording
The six questions were close paraphrases of each other, yet the shortlist moved a lot between them. The bare "best programmatic advertising platforms" question returned 8 names: the four leaders plus StackAdapt, Simpli.Fi, Magnite and Google Ad Manager. Four of the six questions kept the same top four (DV360, The Trade Desk, Amazon DSP, Adobe), so the wording mattered most at the edges of each list.
The "best for small teams" question was the sharpest break of the six. It dropped all four leaders and returned just 4 names: StackAdapt plus three platforms that appeared in no other answer, Yahoo DSP, Roku Ads Manager and Basis DSP, each named 1 of 6. Ask for the best platforms and you get the enterprise DSPs; add "for small teams" and the answer hands back a different, smaller shelf.
The "best free" question returned 8 names but barely changed the cast. Seven of its eight names were the same platforms the plain "best" question returned, and it added just one new name, SmartyAds (1 of 6). On this run the word free did not surface a distinct set of free tools; it re-served the same leaders with one addition.
The "most affordable" question pulled in a cluster seen nowhere else: 6sense, Demandbase, AdRoll ABM (formerly RollWorks) and ABX by DemandScience, each named in 1 of 6 answers. That is no accident. 6sense.com fed 5 of 6 answers across the whole run, and the "affordable" question is where that source's own neighborhood of account-based platforms surfaced.
The plain "recommendations" question added two more names seen in no other answer, Vibe and Meta Ads (Facebook Ads), each 1 of 6, on top of the four leaders, StackAdapt and Google Ads. Add it all up and 10 of the 19 platforms appeared in only one of the six questions, which means more than half of this category's AI visibility hangs on a buyer choosing one exact phrasing.
The source map
Two domains fed every single answer. Reddit and vibe.co were each cited in all 6 of 6 questions, and Quora was cited in 4 of 6. Community threads and roundup posts, not review directories, are what these answers stand on.
Behind the two leaders sat a stack of roundup and marketing-blog domains: 6sense.com (5 of 6), getadlib.com (5 of 6), improvado.io (5 of 6), aidigital.com (3 of 6) and camphouse.io (3 of 6). Across all six questions we counted 12 distinct source domains, and the same handful reappeared question after question.
Here is the part a vendor should read twice. vibe.co is Vibe's own website and 6sense.com is 6sense's own website, and both fed the answers heavily, vibe.co in 6 of 6 questions and 6sense.com in 5 of 6. Both companies got their own product named as a result, Vibe once and 6sense once. They publish "best programmatic platforms" roundups on their own domains, put themselves on the list, and the AI reads those pages as a source. Being your own citation worked.
The honest nuance is that feeding the most answers did not make you the most-named product. vibe.co was cited as often as Reddit, all 6 of 6, yet Vibe the product was named in only 1 of 6 answers. Getting your page into the source set is the price of entry; the model still chooses which names to lift out of it.
We did not see G2 or Capterra anywhere in the 12 source domains. In this category, on this run, the review directories that dominate ordinary software search did not feed a single answer. The closest thing to a neutral referee was Reddit at 6 of 6 and Quora at 4 of 6.
What gets a platform named here
The lever is the source list, not market share. The four leaders reach 5 of 6 answers because they appear across the same roundups the AI pulled, not because a model sat and ranked ad platforms. A platform missing from reddit.com, vibe.co, improvado.io, getadlib.com and 6sense.com has almost no path into these answers, whatever its ad spend.
The gap is also the opportunity. Ten platforms reached only 1 of 6 answers, and the jump from 1 of 6 (17%) to StackAdapt's 4 of 6 (67%) is a matter of appearing in three or four more of the cited pages, not of outspending Amazon or Google. That is a distance a marketing team can actually close.
So the work is concrete. Get named in the Reddit and Quora threads that were cited in 6 of 6 and 4 of 6 questions. Get onto the roundup posts at improvado.io, getadlib.com and camphouse.io that reappeared 3 to 5 times each. And, as vibe.co and 6sense.com prove, publish your own honest category roundup, because a vendor's own domain counted as a source in up to 6 of 6 answers here.
Glotier does not sell a programmatic advertising platform, so we are correctly absent from all 6 of these answers. We would not expect a name here and we did not invent one. This is a category we measured, not a product we are selling into it.
But the run above is exactly what we do for a customer's own category. We ask ChatGPT and Gemini the buyer questions, record who gets named across the whole fan-out, and map the sources behind each answer, so you can see both the 5-of-6 names and the pages that put them there. If you sell in this category, the same check runs on your own category in about a minute, with no account, for free.
