Who ChatGPT and Gemini recommend for performance review software

We put 6 buyer questions about performance review software to ChatGPT and Gemini. Two tools tied at the top, each named in 5 of 6 answers, and none in all six. Here is the full list, the pages the answers were built from, and what it means whether or not your product is on it.

Two products tied for the top of this category: EvalFlow and Lattice were each named in 5 of the 6 buyer questions we ran, an 83% hit rate apiece. We put those six questions to ChatGPT and Gemini on 3 August 2026, one live web search each, and recorded every product named and every source cited. No single product was named in all six answers, so 5 of 6 is the ceiling here.

After the two leaders there is a steep drop. PerformYard came third, named in 3 of 6 answers (50%). Below it sit three products tied at 2 of 6 (33%): BambooHR, Culture Amp and OKRs Tool. That is the complete set of products the assistants named more than once. Every other product was named exactly once.

The tail is long and thin. The six answers returned 33 product mentions in total, an average of 5.5 names per answer, but those spread across 20 distinct products, and 14 of them (70%) appeared in only one of the six questions. A marketing team in this category is not fighting a settled ranking of five household names, it is fighting a list that reshuffles almost completely depending on how the buyer phrases the question.

How the shortlist changed from one question to the next

The plain "best performance review software" question returned seven names: Lattice, Betterworks, 15Five, Leapsome, Culture Amp, Rippling and OKRs Tool. Four of those seven, Betterworks, 15Five, Leapsome and Rippling, never appeared in any other question. EvalFlow, one of the two overall leaders, was absent from this bare "best" answer entirely.

"Best performance review software for small teams" produced the widest list, eight names, and four of them appeared only here: Trakstar, Teamflect, ThriveSparrow and Performance Pro. "What performance review software should I use" was the only question of the six to name Confirm.

"Best free performance review software" collapsed to just four names: Lattice, OKRs Tool, Trakstar HR and EvalFlow. Trakstar HR showed up in the free question and nowhere else.

"Most affordable performance review software" returned a shortlist that shares zero products with the bare "best" answer: SnapEval, AssessTeam, Effy AI, EvalFlow and PeopleGoal. Four of those five, SnapEval, AssessTeam, Effy AI and PeopleGoal, appeared in the affordability question and no other.

That gap is the whole point. Change the buyer's wording from "best" to "most affordable" and the shortlist turns over completely, the two answers share no product at all. Even the two leaders split along this line: Lattice appears in the "best" answer but not the "most affordable" one, and EvalFlow appears in "most affordable" but not the bare "best." Between them they cover all six questions, yet neither covers all six alone. A vendor that only tracks the generic "best" query would never see the affordability shortlist it is missing from. The "performance review software recommendations" question was the only one to name no unique product: all four names it returned, Lattice, PerformYard, EvalFlow and BambooHR, also showed up elsewhere.

Where the answers came from

One source appeared in every single answer: reddit.com, cited in all 6 of 6 questions. No other domain came close. In this category a community forum, not a review directory, is the most reliable path into an AI answer.

The most-cited vendor domain was lattice.com, which fed 5 of the 6 answers, and Lattice the product was named in those same 5 answers. That is the cleanest signal in the whole measurement: a vendor's own website, crawlable and cited, sitting directly behind the answer that recommends it. PerformYard shows the same pattern on a smaller scale, performyard.com cited in 2 answers and PerformYard named in 3. okrstool.com fed 4 answers and bamboohr.com fed 3, and both OKRs Tool and BambooHR were named twice.

Review directories showed up only in part. G2 (g2.com) was cited in 4 of 6 answers and Gartner in 1, but Capterra did not appear in a single answer. The reflex to get listed on every directory is only half-right here: G2 earns citations in this category, Capterra earned none.

Independent roundups carried a lot of the weight. peoplemanagingpeople.com was cited in 4 of 6 answers, Forbes in 2, and TechnologyAdvice, Workleap and GuideFlow in 1 each. YouTube was cited in 2 answers and Microsoft Learn in 2, a reminder the assistants pull from wherever the text lives, not a curated vendor list. Across all six answers, 18 distinct domains were cited.

The exception proves the rule. EvalFlow tied for the overall lead at 5 of 6, yet no evalflow.com appears anywhere in those 18 domains. It was carried entirely by third-party mentions, the Reddit threads and the roundups, rather than its own site. So there are two ways onto the list: own a domain the AI cites, the way Lattice does, or get discussed in the sources the AI already trusts, the way EvalFlow was.

What a vendor here would do to get named

In this category the source list, not market share, decides who gets named. Rippling, a large HR platform, was named in just 1 of 6 answers. SnapEval, far smaller, was also named once, because snapeval.com and the affordability roundups happened to sit behind the "most affordable" answer. The assistants were not weighing revenue, they were reading pages.

So if we sold performance review software, we would work the exact 18 domains this measurement surfaced, in order of citation. We would make sure the product is discussed in the Reddit threads that fed all 6 answers, pitch the roundups that carry the most weight (peoplemanagingpeople.com at 4 of 6, Forbes at 2), earn a real G2 presence (cited in 4 of 6), and keep our own domain crawlable and current the way lattice.com sat behind 5 answers. Then we would re-run the six questions and watch the count move.

The full list, counted

ProductNamed inShare
EvalFlow5 of 683%
Lattice5 of 683%
PerformYard3 of 650%
BambooHR2 of 633%
Culture Amp2 of 633%
OKRs Tool2 of 633%
15Five1 of 617%
AssessTeam1 of 617%
Betterworks1 of 617%

Those are the top nine by count. The remaining eleven names were each cited once, and two of them, Trakstar and Trakstar HR, are the same vendor under two labels. We are keeping them as two separate 1-of-6 rows rather than adding them into a single "2" the measurement never recorded, the same way we would not merge a "HubSpot" and a "HubSpot CRM" if an answer split them.

Why Glotier is not on this list

We do not sell performance review software, so Glotier is correctly absent from all six answers, and we would be lying if we claimed otherwise. That is the honest read of our own data. But running this exact measurement is what Glotier does for a customer's own category: put the buyer questions to ChatGPT and Gemini, record who gets named, and show the source pages behind each answer, so a fan-out like "best" versus "most affordable" stops being invisible. The questions we asked

One live web search per question, put to serper+or:chatgpt, gemini on 2026-08-03. 6 of 6 came back with an answer we could read. Whether a product was named is decided by looking for it in the answer text, not by asking a model for its opinion.

  1. best performance review software
  2. best performance review software for small teams
  3. what performance review software should I use
  4. best free performance review software
  5. most affordable performance review software
  6. performance review software recommendations

Questions people ask

What is the best performance review software according to AI right now?
In our 3 August 2026 measurement, ChatGPT and Gemini tied two products at the top: EvalFlow and Lattice were each named in 5 of 6 buyer questions (83%). PerformYard was third at 3 of 6 (50%), and no product was named in all six answers.
Which performance review tools does AI recommend as the most affordable?
For the 'most affordable' question specifically, the answer named SnapEval, AssessTeam, Effy AI, EvalFlow and PeopleGoal. That shortlist shared zero products with the generic 'best' answer, and Lattice, a joint overall leader, did not appear in it at all.
What free performance review software does AI suggest?
The 'best free' question returned just four names: Lattice, OKRs Tool, Trakstar HR and EvalFlow. Trakstar HR appeared only in the free question and in none of the other five.
Why do AI tool recommendations change every time I reword the question?
Because the shortlist follows the sources, not a fixed ranking. Across the six questions the assistants named 20 distinct products, and 14 of them (70%) appeared in only one wording. Even the two leaders split: Lattice showed up for 'best' but not 'most affordable,' and EvalFlow did the reverse.
Do I need to be on G2 and Capterra to get named by AI in this category?
Only partly. G2 was cited in 4 of 6 answers, but Capterra did not appear in any. The single most-cited source was reddit.com (6 of 6) and the top vendor domain was lattice.com (5 of 6), so community threads and your own crawlable site mattered more than directory coverage here.
