BambooHR was the one product ChatGPT and Gemini could not stop naming: it came up in all 6 of the 6 answers we recorded, a clean 100% for employee onboarding software. We put six buyer-style questions to the two assistants on 3 August 2026, gave each one a live web search, and wrote down every product named and every source cited.
Jira Service Management was the clear runner-up, named in 5 of 6 answers (83%), with Rippling third at 4 of 6 (67%). Only three products cleared the halfway line: after those two comes WorkBright at 3 of 6 (50%), and everything else showed up in half the answers or fewer.
The long tail is the real story. 26 different products were named in total, and 18 of them (69%) appeared in only a single one of the six answers. A buyer who types a slightly different phrase meets a mostly different shortlist. Across all six phrasings, only BambooHR (6 of 6) was truly safe.
The shortlist changes with the adjective
The bare "best employee onboarding software" question returned a tight consensus of 5 products: Jira Service Management, BambooHR, WorkBright, Rippling and Docebo. Every one of those five also turned up in at least one other question, so this is the stable core with no surprises.
Add "free" and the list is almost unrecognisable. "Best free employee onboarding software" named 8 products, and 6 of them appeared in no other question: Zoho Creator, Symply Software, ApplicantStack, Google Forms + Sheets, Trello and Notion. The free framing is where general productivity and do-it-yourself tools enter, a Google Forms + Sheets combo, Trello and Notion, none of which surfaced under any other phrasing. BambooHR still made the free list (its 6-of-6 streak held), and NoLoCo carried over from the affordable question.
Swap "free" for "most affordable" and you get yet another set. That question named 7 products, and 3 were unique to it: Justworks, Docusign and Adobe Sign. The two e-signature tools, Docusign and Adobe Sign, only appeared when a buyer asked about price, never under "best" or "free." ClearCompany (2 of 6) and NoLoCo (2 of 6) filled it out alongside the ever-present BambooHR and Jira Service Management.
"Small teams" opened its own door too. That phrasing pulled in 5 products no other question surfaced: Zoho, Workable, UKG, Paychex and Onpay, several of them payroll-first names. The pattern across all four framings is blunt: your product does not have one AI ranking, it has one per phrasing, and 18 of the 26 named products (69%) earned their entire presence from a single question.
Where the answers came from
21 different domains fed the six answers, and the top of that list is a vendor's own website. bamboohr.com was cited in all 6 answers, more than any other source, the same 6 answers in which BambooHR was named. That is the key insight of this measurement: the product named in every answer also owns the page cited in every answer. Being the source and being the pick were the same move.
The pattern repeats down the list. atlassian.com fed 5 of 6 answers and its product, Jira Service Management, was named 5 times. hibob.com fed 3 answers (HiBob named twice), noloco.io fed 2 (NoLoCo named twice), and smaller vendor pages like applicantstack.com, pages.symply.io and zoho.com each fed 1 answer and each got their own product named. Eight vendor-owned domains fed answers, and every one of those vendors was named.
One counter-example is worth flagging. tango.ai was cited in 4 of 6 answers, more than most, yet the product Tango was named only once. Tango's site publishes onboarding roundups that the assistants leaned on, so its domain rode along as a source even when its own tool was not the pick. Publishing useful comparisons gets you cited, it does not guarantee you get named.
Community and roundup sites carried the rest. reddit.com appeared in 3 of 6 answers, while Quora did not appear once. Roundup and how-to publishers were everywhere: zapier.com and medium.com fed 3 answers each, elearningindustry.com fed 2, and Forbes, Workforce, People Managing People and a handful of others fed 1 apiece.
The classic software review directories were absent. G2 and Capterra did not feed a single one of the six answers. The only analyst-style directory that showed up was gartner.com, in 3 of 6. If your AI-visibility plan rests on your G2 or Capterra rating, this category's answers never touched either one.
What we would do to get named here
If we sold onboarding software, we would stop thinking about market share and start working the source list, because in this data the source list is what decides who gets named. BambooHR was named in 6 of 6 answers because its page was cited in 6 of 6. The lever is simple to state: be in the exact pages these six answers pull from.
Three moves follow directly from the numbers. Own a genuinely citable page on your own domain, since 8 of the 21 source domains were vendor sites and every one of those vendors got named. Get into the Reddit threads and roundups the assistants actually use, because reddit.com fed 3 of 6 answers and zapier.com and medium.com fed 3 each. And write for the phrasings, not just "best," because 18 of 26 products got in through a single question, so a page aimed at "free," "affordable" or "small teams" is often the whole game.
One data quirk to plan around: the same brand can appear under two labels and split its own count. Zoho was named once as "Zoho" and separately once as "Zoho Creator," which we count as two rows rather than one brand named twice. We keep them apart because that is how the assistants said it, and merging them would invent a number the measurement never produced.
The full list, counted
| Product | Named in | Share |
|---|---|---|
| BambooHR | 6 of 6 | 100% |
| Jira Service Management | 5 of 6 | 83% |
| Rippling | 4 of 6 | 67% |
| WorkBright | 3 of 6 | 50% |
| ClearCompany | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| Docebo | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| HiBob | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| NoLoCo | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| Adobe Sign | 1 of 6 | 17% |
Below this table sit the two split labels noted above: Zoho (1 of 6) and Zoho Creator (1 of 6) as separate rows, not a combined "Zoho, twice," alongside 16 other products that were each named in exactly 1 of the 6 answers.
Where Glotier fits
Glotier does not sell employee onboarding software, so we are correctly absent from all 6 of these answers. That is the right result. If our name had turned up here, something would be wrong with the measurement, not right with our marketing.
But this page is exactly what Glotier does for the category you do sell in. We ran the same six buyer questions, counted the names, and mapped the sources behind each answer, all in about a minute. If you want to see who ChatGPT and Gemini name when someone asks for the best tool in your category, the check is free, needs no account, and takes about a minute.
