Fleetio was the one product ChatGPT and Gemini kept coming back to: it appeared in 5 of the 6 fleet management software answers we measured on 2026-08-03, more than any other tool in the category. We asked both assistants six ways a buyer actually phrases the question, gave each one live web search, and wrote down every product named and every source it cited.
Four products tied for second, each named in 4 of the 6 answers: AUTOsist, Coast, Samsara, and Verizon Connect. That is the real shortlist a buyer sees no matter how they ask, and it is worth noting that Coast, a newer and smaller name than Samsara or Verizon Connect, landed in exactly as many answers as either giant.
Behind them, Azuga and Motive were each named in 3 of the 6 answers, and three more tools, EROAD, Linxup, and Simply Fleet, showed up in 2 of the 6. Everything else on the list, eleven products in total, was named just once. So the top five, Fleetio through Verizon Connect, carried most of the visibility, and a long tail of single mentions filled out the rest.
The shortlist changed when the question changed
This is the part most vendors miss. Across the six questions we did not get one shortlist, we got six different ones, and the overlap between them was smaller than you would think.
The bare "best fleet management software" query returned seven names: Coast, Fleetio, AUTOsist, Verizon Connect, Azuga, Linxup, and Simply Fleet. "What should I use," "recommendations," and "for small teams" all orbited the same core of Fleetio, Coast, Samsara, Verizon Connect, and AUTOsist, with Motive, Azuga, EROAD, IntelliShift, Geotab, and Teletrac Navman rotating in at the edges.
Then the word "free" blew the whole list up. "Best free fleet management software" returned eight names, and seven of them appeared in no other answer: Fiix, MaintainX, Fracttal One, Whip Around, SafetyCulture, ManWinWin, and Asset Infinity. Only Linxup bridged the free question and the paid ones. Not one of the five paid leaders, Fleetio, Coast, Samsara, Verizon Connect, and AUTOsist, survived the word "free." A buyer who adds one adjective gets a completely different industry.
"Most affordable" behaved differently again, returning six names. It pulled the mainstream leaders back in (AUTOsist, Fleetio, Coast, Samsara) alongside Simply Fleet and one name unique to that question, Whip. So "affordable" and "free" are not the same query to an AI: affordable kept the household names, free swapped them out for maintenance-focused tools.
A few products lived in exactly one sub-question. IntelliShift appeared only under "what should I use." Geotab and Teletrac Navman appeared only under "recommendations." Whip appeared only under "most affordable." And the seven free-only tools above never showed up anywhere else. One wrinkle worth flagging: the model recorded "Whip" (in the affordable answer) and "Whip Around" (in the free answer) as two separate names, once each. They are the same brand under two labels, so we count them separately rather than merge them into a number the data does not actually show.
Where the answers came from
Two domains fed every single one of the six answers: reddit.com and coastapp.com, each cited 6 times out of 6. A community forum and one vendor's own website were the two most influential sources in the entire category.
After those, fleetio.com and uschamber.com were each cited in 5 of the 6 answers, followed by geotab.com and tech.co at 4, and forbes.com at 3. Roundup publishers did real work here: the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Tech.co, and Forbes together shaped most answers, with altexsoft.com and softwarereviews.com adding one each.
Community and social sources went beyond Reddit's 6: Quora, Spiceworks, Facebook, and YouTube were each cited once. The pattern is that these assistants treat a real person describing their fleet on a forum as a citable source, not just a polished vendor page.
Here is the insight we would underline for anyone in this category. The vendors whose own domains fed the most answers are the vendors who got named the most. Coast's own site, coastapp.com, was the joint most-cited source at 6, and Coast was named in 4 of 6 answers. Fleetio's own site was cited 5 times, and Fleetio was the single most-named product at 5 of 6. The roundup you publish about your category can become the source that gets you named in it.
Geotab is the counter-example that proves the rule: geotab.com was cited 4 times, but Geotab the product was named only once. Its domain worked as a publisher of category guides, not as a pitch for itself. Publishing gets you cited; it does not automatically get you named.
One more thing a buyer should know: the classic review directories barely registered. Capterra was cited exactly once, and G2 did not appear at all. softwarereviews.com also appeared once. For fleet software in this measurement, community threads and roundups mattered far more than the star-rating directories.
What this means if you sell fleet software
The source list, not your market share, decided who got named. Samsara and Verizon Connect are far larger than Coast, yet all three tied at 4 of 6, and Fleetio beat all of them at 5. If AI visibility were a function of company size, that ranking would look different.
So the playbook is concrete. Be present in the exact sources these answers were built from. Reddit was in 100% of the answers, so the threads where buyers compare tools matter more than any brochure. Get into the U.S. Chamber roundup (5 of 6), Tech.co (4 of 6), and Forbes (3 of 6). And take the Coast and Fleetio lesson seriously: publishing your own honest category comparison put both of their domains among the top three sources feeding these answers.

Why Glotier isn't on this list
We build Glotier, and we do not sell fleet management software, so we are correctly absent from every one of these answers. We would be worried if we showed up. But running this exact measurement is the whole point of Glotier: we ask ChatGPT and Gemini the questions your buyers ask, record who gets named and which sources fed the answer, and show you where you stand in your own category. The check is free, needs no account, and takes about a minute.
