Asset Panda was the one product ChatGPT and Gemini kept agreeing on: it was named in 5 of the 6 buyer questions we tested about IT asset management software, or 83% of the answers. We ran this on 2026-08-07 with one live web search per question, and logged every product named and every source domain behind it.
No other product was close. SysAid was named in 3 of 6 answers (50%), the only other name above a third of the set. Below it, eight products tied at 2 of 6 (33% each): AssetTiger, BMC Track-It!, Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite, Lansweeper, ManageEngine AssetExplorer, Reftab, ServiceNow and SolarWinds Web Help Desk. A further 17 product labels were each named in just 1 of 6 answers (17%), which turns out to matter for the reason the next section explains.
The question changed who showed up
The six questions were near paraphrases of each other, but the shortlists barely overlapped. The plain "best it asset management software" query returned a 7-name enterprise core: Ivanti IT Asset Management Suite, ManageEngine AssetExplorer, SolarWinds Web Help Desk, Asset Panda, Lansweeper, SysAid and ServiceNow. Every one of those 7 also appeared in at least one other question, so the bare "best" query produced zero exclusive names.
"Best free it asset management software" was the sharpest fork in the whole set. It returned only 4 names, and 3 of them appeared in no other question: Snipe-IT, Spiceworks Inventory (On-Prem) and GLPI. Asset Panda, the overall leader at 5 of 6, did not appear in the free answer at all.
"Most affordable it asset management software" was clearly not the same question as "free" to the assistants. Its 7 names brought Asset Panda back and read like the paid set plus AssetTiger, with 3 names exclusive to it: ManageEngine (labelled plainly), Flexera One IT Asset Management and InvGate Asset Management. Only AssetTiger, at 2 of 6, appeared in both the free list and the affordable list.
The remaining three questions each grew their own tail. "Best ... for small teams" was the only question to name IT Glue, Unduit and Vorex. "What ... should I use" was the only one to name InvGate, AssetExplorer, SafetyCulture, AVEVA Enterprise and ManagerPlus. "It asset management software recommendations" was the only one to name Freshservice, AssetSonar and GoCodes. Each of those 11 names scored 1 of 6 precisely because it lived inside a single phrasing.
Two brands were also split across labels, which is why we do not merge their rows. ManageEngine was named three ways: "ManageEngine AssetExplorer" in 2 answers, then "ManageEngine" and "AssetExplorer" in 1 each. InvGate was named as "InvGate" in 1 answer and "InvGate Asset Management" in another. We report each label at its measured count instead of summing, because that is what the assistants actually said.
Where the answers came from
Reddit sat behind every answer: reddit.com was cited in all 6 of 6 responses, the only universal source. Three roundup and analyst pages tied for second at 5 of 6 each: blog.invgate.com, gartner.com and pcmag.com. After those four, the citations thinned fast.
Community threads did a lot of the lifting. Beyond Reddit's 6 of 6, community.spiceworks.com fed 2 answers, and quora.com and linkedin.com fed 1 each, so four forum-style domains sat in the source list. The editorial roundups filled most of the rest: virima.com (3 of 6), then cloudaware.com, monday.com and atlassian.com at 2 of 6 each, plus budibase.com, alvao.com and getply.com at 1 each.
The mainstream software review directories did not show up. G2 and Capterra were absent from all 6 answers. Gartner was the only analyst-style directory cited, at 5 of 6, so for this category "be on Gartner" is not interchangeable with "be on G2".
Here is the insight we would circle for anyone selling in this space: several vendors were named partly off their own websites. sysaid.com fed 1 answer and SysAid was named in 3 of 6, the number-two product overall. lansweeper.com fed 1 answer and Lansweeper landed 2 of 6. assettiger.com fed 1 answer and AssetTiger reached 2 of 6. snipeitapp.com, safetyculture.com and unduit.com each fed answers where Snipe-IT, SafetyCulture and Unduit were then named. When the assistant reads your page, your product tends to end up in the sentence.
The counter-example is just as instructive. blog.invgate.com was one of the most-cited sources in the entire set, feeding 5 of 6 answers, yet InvGate itself was named in only 1 answer (2 if you count the separate "InvGate Asset Management" label). Their roundup earned the citation and helped surface a dozen rivals; it did much less to get InvGate named. Publishing the list is not the same as being the answer.
What it takes to get named here
For a marketing team in IT asset management, the lesson is narrow: the source list decided the shortlist, not market share. The answers were built from about 20 domains, and being present in the top few, reddit.com at 6 of 6 and blog.invgate.com, gartner.com and pcmag.com at 5 of 6, is worth more than category revenue that never reaches those pages.
That gives you three things to check today. Are you named in the Reddit and Spiceworks threads these assistants pulled for 6 of 6 and 2 of 6 answers? Are you inside the PCMag and Gartner roundups cited in 5 of 6? And does your own site read like a page worth quoting, the way sysaid.com and lansweeper.com did while their products landed in 2 to 3 of 6 answers? Once you have the source map, none of that is guesswork.

Below this line, 17 more labels were each named in 1 of 6 (17%): AssetExplorer, AssetSonar, AVEVA Enterprise, Flexera One IT Asset Management, Freshservice, GLPI, GoCodes, InvGate, InvGate Asset Management, IT Glue, ManageEngine, ManagerPlus, SafetyCulture, Snipe-IT, Spiceworks Inventory (On-Prem), Unduit and Vorex.
Why we ran this
Glotier does not sell IT asset management software, so we are correctly absent from all 6 of these answers, and we would not want to be in them. We ran the category because this measurement is exactly what Glotier does for a customer: take your category, ask ChatGPT and Gemini the questions your buyers actually type, and show you which products get named and which source pages produced them.
If you sell in this space, the version of this page for your own category is the one worth having. The check is free, takes about a minute, and needs no account. You would see your own "5 of 6" or "0 of 6" next to the exact domains you would need to show up on.
