Planful was the only financial close product that ChatGPT and Gemini named in every one of our six buyer questions, a clean 6 of 6. We ran this on 4 August 2026: six ways a buyer might ask for the best close software, put to ChatGPT and Gemini with one live web search each, with every product named and every source domain logged. This is what the two assistants actually say today, counted.

Behind Planful, three products tied at 5 of 6: BlackLine, FloQast and Numeric. Each was named in five of the six answers and missed only one question apiece. So the working shortlist a buyer runs into is four names that appear almost every time, drawn from seventeen distinct product labels the two assistants used across the whole run.

OneStream was next at 4 of 6, and Nominal at 3 of 6. Counting everything named in at least half the answers gives a top six: Planful (6 of 6), BlackLine (5 of 6), FloQast (5 of 6), Numeric (5 of 6), OneStream (4 of 6) and Nominal (3 of 6). Below that line sits a cluster of five products named in just 2 of 6 answers each: Adra by Trintech, Cube, Datarails, HighRadius and Workiva.

The shortlist changed with the question

The shortlist was not one fixed list, it moved with how the question was phrased, and that is the most useful thing in this data. The "best free financial close software" question is where it moved most. It surfaced three names that appear nowhere else in the run: Aleph, Prophix Software and SAP Cloud ERP (SAP S/4HANA Cloud). Ask about free and the assistants reach past the usual leaders for anything they can frame as free or entry tier.

The "most affordable financial close software" question did the opposite. It returned the tightest set of the six, just 5 products, and every one was already a core name: BlackLine, Planful, OneStream, Numeric and HighRadius. Affordability unlocked no budget-only challenger, it narrowed the field to incumbents. HighRadius is the tell here: both of its 2 total mentions came from the affordable and the recommendations questions and nowhere else.

The bare "best financial close software" question returned eight names and leaned on the establishment: BlackLine, FloQast, Workiva, Adra by Trintech, Numeric, Planful, Datarails and OneStream. None of those eight was unique to it, they all recur in other questions, which makes the generic "best" phrasing the most consensus-driven of the six.

The remaining phrasings each added their own names. "Best for small teams" was the only place SAP Cloud ERP and the fuller label BlackLine Financial Close Management appeared. "What financial close software should I use" was the only place Fluence Consolidation showed up. In all, six labels appeared in exactly one of the six questions, and half of those single-question names landed in the free query. Measure only the generic "best" phrase and you would see just 8 of the 17 labels the two assistants use across all six.

The source map: who fed the answers

Two domains fed more answers than any other, each sitting behind all 6 of the 6 questions: reddit.com and nominal.so. A public community forum and one vendor's own website were tied as the single most influential sources in the entire measurement.

Community threads carry real weight in this category. Reddit was a source for 6 of 6 questions and Quora appeared behind 1 of 6. The assistants keep returning to places where finance teams compare tools in the open, not only to vendor marketing pages.

The big directories showed up unevenly. Gartner fed 4 of 6 answers and G2 fed 3 of 6, with one more from its learn.g2.com subdomain. Capterra did not appear at all. So among the software directories a buyer might expect, G2 is in and Capterra is out, and a Reddit thread outranked both of them on reach.

Here is the insight a vendor in this category should not skip: five companies had their own website cited as a source and had their product named in the answers. Nominal's site (nominal.so) fed 6 of 6 questions and Nominal was named in 3. Numeric's site (numeric.io) fed 5 of 6 and Numeric was named in 5. HighRadius (highradius.com) fed 5 and was named in 2. OneStream (onestream.com) fed 2 and was named in 4. Prophix (prophix.com) fed 1 and was named in 1. Publishing your own comparison content, and getting cited for it, lines up here with getting named.

It is not automatic. Abacum's site (abacum.ai) fed 5 of 6 answers, more than almost any vendor page, yet Abacum was never named as a product, its roundup pages just helped the assistants build lists of other people's tools. The reseller page bcsprosoft.com fed 4 answers and was likewise never named. Being cited as a source and being picked as a product are two different wins.

What a vendor here would do to get named

If you sell financial close software and want to be in these answers, the data points at one move: be present in the exact sources the assistants read. It is a short, nameable list. Fourteen domains did all the feeding for the whole category: reddit.com and nominal.so behind all 6 questions, abacum.ai, highradius.com and numeric.io behind 5, bcsprosoft.com and gartner.com behind 4, g2.com behind 3, then onestream.com, prophix.com, quora.com, hubifi.com, learn.g2.com and uschamber.com in the tail.

Market share did not decide this. There is no revenue figure anywhere in the answers, and a smaller name like Numeric matched the largest incumbents at 5 of 6 because it was present where the models looked. What decided who got named was the source list: the Reddit threads, the Gartner and G2 entries, and the handful of vendor and roundup pages the assistants trust. Get discussed in those places, or get left out of the answer.

Where Glotier fits

Glotier does not sell financial close software, so we are not named in any of these answers, and that is the correct result. We would be worried if a close-software question returned us. What we do is run exactly this measurement for whatever category you do sell in: the six ways buyers ask, the products ChatGPT and Gemini name, and the source pages behind each answer.

If you work on one of these products, your own AI visibility is measurable in about a minute. The check is free and needs no account: give us your category, and we show you who the assistants name and the domains they pulled from, the same way we did here for financial close.

Two brands were double-labelled in the run, and we have not merged them, because the measurement does not show a merged count. BlackLine was named as "BlackLine" in 5 answers and once more under the fuller label "BlackLine Financial Close Management," which stays a separate 1 of 6 rather than becoming a 6. SAP appeared the same way, once as "SAP Cloud ERP" and once as "SAP Cloud ERP (SAP S/4HANA Cloud)," two separate entries of 1 of 6 each, not a single 2.

The questions we asked

One live web search per question, put to serper+or:chatgpt, gemini on 2026-08-04. 6 of 6 came back with an answer we could read. Whether a product was named is decided by looking for it in the answer text, not by asking a model for its opinion.

Questions people ask

What is the best financial close software according to AI right now?
In our 4 August 2026 measurement, Planful was the only product ChatGPT and Gemini named in all six buyer questions (6 of 6, 100%). BlackLine, FloQast and Numeric followed at 5 of 6 each, and OneStream at 4 of 6. Those are the names you meet almost every time you ask, out of seventeen distinct labels the two assistants used across the run.
What is the best free financial close software?
The "best free" question behaved differently from the rest. It brought up three names that appeared in none of the other five questions: SAP Cloud ERP (SAP S/4HANA Cloud), Aleph and Prophix Software. It still repeated the core picks too, Planful, Numeric, FloQast, BlackLine and Nominal, so "free" mixes entry-tier names in with the usual leaders.
What is the most affordable financial close software?
The "most affordable" question returned the shortest list of the six, just 5 products, and all of them were already core names: BlackLine, Planful, OneStream, Numeric and HighRadius. Asking about affordability did not surface any budget-only tool, it narrowed the answer to incumbents. Both of HighRadius's 2 total mentions came from this query and the recommendations query.
What financial close software is best for small teams?
For small teams, ChatGPT and Gemini named FloQast, Planful, Numeric, Nominal, OneStream and Workiva, plus two names that showed up only in this question: SAP Cloud ERP and a fuller label BlackLine Financial Close Management. Planful, named in 6 of 6 questions overall, appeared here too.
Do AI assistants use Reddit to recommend financial close software?
Yes. reddit.com was a source behind all 6 of 6 questions, tied with the vendor site nominal.so as the most-cited domain in the measurement, and Quora appeared behind 1 of 6. Among directories, Gartner fed 4 of 6 answers and G2 fed 3 of 6 (plus one more from learn.g2.com), while Capterra did not appear at all.
