Who ChatGPT and Gemini recommend for customer data platforms

We put 6 buyer questions about customer data platforms to ChatGPT and Gemini. Two tools tied at the top, each named in 3 of 6 answers, and none in all six. Here is the full list, the pages the answers were built from, and what it means whether or not your product is on it.

No single customer data platform won this category: the two most-named products, Klaviyo and Twilio Segment, each appeared in just 3 of the 6 answers we collected. On 2026-08-03 we put six buyer questions about customer data platforms to ChatGPT and Gemini, one live web search per answer, and logged every product named and every source cited. Nothing was named in more than half the answers.

The field was wide and thin. Across the six answers, 28 distinct product labels came up, and 18 of them were named exactly once. Only Klaviyo and Twilio Segment reached 3 of 6 (50%); a cluster of eight more each landed 2 of 6 (33%): ActionIQ, Bloomreach, Customer.io, HubSpot, Oracle Fusion Unity Data Platform, Salesforce Data Cloud, Tealium Customer Data Hub, and Treasure Data CDP. If you sell a CDP, the practical read is that there is no default answer to beat, only a scattered set of lists to get onto.

A note on how we counted: three brands showed up under two different labels, and we left them split exactly as the assistants wrote them. ActionIQ was named as "ActionIQ" (2 of 6) and again as "ActionIQ CDP" (1 of 6); Salesforce as "Salesforce Data Cloud" (2 of 6) and "Salesforce Data" (1 of 6); Insider as "Insider" (1 of 6) and "Insider Customer Data Platform" (1 of 6). We did not merge those into a bigger number the measurement never produced, so read ActionIQ's true reach as somewhere between its measured 2 and a merged 3.

The shortlist changed with every question

This is the part that should worry any CDP marketer: the six questions barely returned the same companies. The bare "best customer data platforms" query and the "best free customer data platforms" query shared zero products. Not one of the eight names in the "best" answer (Salesforce Data Cloud, Oracle Fusion Unity Data Platform, Adobe Real-Time CDP, Tealium Customer Data Hub, ActionIQ, Twilio Segment, Insider, Bloomreach) reappeared when we asked for the best free option.

The bare "best" answer was an enterprise list: all eight names were large-platform CDPs. Two of them, Adobe Real-Time CDP and Insider, were named only in that plain "best" answer and in none of the other five questions.

"Best free" pulled a completely different, cheaper crowd of eight: Customer.io, Klaviyo, Dotdigital, Meiro, Quickbase, HubSpot, Zoho CRM, and Piwik PRO. Five of those (Dotdigital, Meiro, Quickbase, Zoho CRM, and Piwik PRO) appeared in the free answer and in none of the other five questions. Ask about "free" and you get CRM-adjacent tools with free tiers, not the platforms the "best" query named.

"Most affordable" was a third list again: Customer.io, HubSpot, Braze, Iterable, Blueshift, Klaviyo, Getuntitled, and Bloomreach. It overlapped with "best free" on just three names (Customer.io, HubSpot, and Klaviyo) and with the bare "best" list on exactly one (Bloomreach). Four names here were unique to the affordability question: Braze, Iterable, Blueshift, and Getuntitled.

The single-question names tell the whole fan-out story. Able CDP was named only in the "for small teams" answer (1 of 6). DataOS, Hightouch, and "Salesforce Data" were named only in the "what should I use" answer, which returned the shortest product list of all, four names, while drawing on eight source domains. ActionIQ CDP, Amperity CDP, and Insider Customer Data Platform appeared only in the "recommendations" answer. Change one word in the question and roughly half the shortlist changes with it.

Where the answers came from

Community and editorial pages, not review directories, did most of the work. Reddit was cited in 5 of the 6 answers and Medium in 5 of 6, the two most-used domains in the whole set. Behind them sat a mix of analyst and roundup pages: Gartner in 4 of 6, G2 in 4 of 6, and a long tail of one-off sources including Forbes, thecxlead.com, improvado.io, brainforge.ai, cdp.com, databricks.com, and a YouTube video, each cited once.

Two absences are worth naming. G2 showed up in 4 of 6 answers, but Capterra, the other big review directory, never appeared at all. And Quora, the community site that often rides alongside Reddit, was cited zero times; the community voice here was Reddit alone, in 5 of 6 answers.

Here is the key insight: vendors' own domains fed the answers, and when a vendor's site was in the source set, that vendor tended to get named. Salesforce.com was cited in 4 of 6 answers, and Salesforce Data Cloud was named in the very "best" answer its own domain helped source. Able CDP's ablecdp.com was among the sources for the "small teams" answer, and Able CDP was named in it. Piwik PRO's own piwik.pro fed the "best free" answer, and Piwik PRO was named there. Insider's insiderone.com was cited in the "recommendations" answer, where Insider Customer Data Platform was named. Four separate times, a company's own page was in the reading list and the company came out named.

What gets a CDP named

Presence in the retrieved pages, not market share, decided who was named. The clearest proof is the companies you have probably never heard of: names like Getuntitled, Meiro, DataOS, and Able CDP each earned a spot in an answer (1 of 6 apiece), while plenty of well-known CDPs did not appear at all. The assistants named what was on the pages they read, and those pages were Reddit threads, Medium roundups, Gartner and G2 lists, and a handful of vendor sites.

So the playbook is concrete. Be present in the exact sources these answers lean on: the Reddit threads (cited in 5 of 6 answers), the Medium roundups (5 of 6), the Gartner and G2 lists (4 of 6 each), and your own domain, which demonstrably got four vendors named. And because the shortlist swings hard on wording, you have to be present against the phrasing buyers actually use: "free," "affordable," and "for small teams" pulled almost entirely different lists from the plain "best" query. Winning one does not win the others.

The full list, counted

Every product named in 2 or more of the six answers, exactly as the assistants labelled them:

ProductNamed inShare
Klaviyo3 of 650%
Twilio Segment3 of 650%
ActionIQ2 of 633%
Bloomreach2 of 633%
Customer.io2 of 633%
HubSpot2 of 633%
Oracle Fusion Unity Data Platform2 of 633%
Salesforce Data Cloud2 of 633%
Tealium Customer Data Hub2 of 633%
Treasure Data CDP2 of 633%

One honest note to end on. Glotier does not sell a customer data platform, so we are correctly absent from every one of these answers; there would be something wrong with the measurement if we showed up. But measuring a category exactly like this, the six buyer questions, the products named, and the source pages behind each answer, is the thing Glotier does for the category you do sell in. The check is free, takes about a minute, and needs no account.

The questions we asked

One live web search per question, put to serper+or:chatgpt, gemini on 2026-08-03. 6 of 6 came back with an answer we could read. Whether a product was named is decided by looking for it in the answer text, not by asking a model for its opinion.

Questions people ask

Which customer data platform do ChatGPT and Gemini recommend most?
Neither picks a clear favorite. Klaviyo and Twilio Segment tied at the top, each named in 3 of 6 answers (50%). Eight more products landed 2 of 6 (33%): ActionIQ, Bloomreach, Customer.io, HubSpot, Oracle Fusion Unity Data Platform, Salesforce Data Cloud, Tealium Customer Data Hub, and Treasure Data CDP. No product was named in more than half the answers, and 18 of the 28 distinct names came up only once.
Do the AI assistants name the same CDPs whether I ask for the best or the cheapest?
No. The bare best customer data platforms answer and the best free answer shared zero products. Best returned an enterprise list (Salesforce Data Cloud, Oracle Fusion Unity Data Platform, Adobe Real-Time CDP, Tealium Customer Data Hub, ActionIQ, Twilio Segment, Insider, Bloomreach). Best free returned Customer.io, Klaviyo, Dotdigital, Meiro, Quickbase, HubSpot, Zoho CRM, and Piwik PRO. Most affordable was a third list that overlapped best free on only 3 names and the plain best list on just 1 (Bloomreach).
Which free customer data platforms get named by AI?
For the best free customer data platforms question, ChatGPT and Gemini named eight products: Customer.io, Klaviyo, Dotdigital, Meiro, Quickbase, HubSpot, Zoho CRM, and Piwik PRO. Five of those (Dotdigital, Meiro, Quickbase, Zoho CRM, and Piwik PRO) appeared in the free answer and in none of the other five questions, so they surface only when a buyer specifically asks about free options.
Where do these AI CDP recommendations actually come from?
Mostly community and editorial pages. Reddit was cited in 5 of 6 answers and Medium in 5 of 6, the two most-used sources. Gartner and G2 each appeared in 4 of 6, followed by one-off citations to Forbes, thecxlead.com, improvado.io, brainforge.ai, cdp.com, databricks.com, and a YouTube video. Notably, Capterra and Quora were never cited, and several vendors' own domains fed the answers.
How does a customer data platform get named by AI assistants?
By being on the pages the assistant reads, not by market share. Four vendors (Salesforce, Able CDP, Piwik PRO, and Insider) were named in answers their own domains helped source, and little-known names like Getuntitled, Meiro, and DataOS each earned a spot (1 of 6) while bigger CDPs did not appear at all. Presence in the Reddit threads (5 of 6 answers), Medium roundups (5 of 6), Gartner and G2 lists (4 of 6 each), and your own site is what got products named.
