Three products tied for the top of the affiliate marketing software shortlist that AI hands buyers: Awin, Impact and Trackdesk were each named in 4 of the 6 buyer questions we ran through ChatGPT and Gemini on 3 August 2026. No single product was named in all six, so at the top this category is a three-way tie at 67%, not one clear winner.
We asked six versions of the same buying question, one live web search each, and recorded every product named and every source domain behind the answers. Across the six answers, ChatGPT and Gemini named 17 different products in total. The gap between the leaders and the pack is narrow: after the three at 4 of 6 come four products at 3 of 6 answers (50%) each, FirstPromoter, PartnerStack, Post Affiliate Pro and Rewardful. Everything else was named twice or once.
Only one product below that group reached 2 of 6 answers: Systeme.io, at 33%. The remaining nine products, GoAffPro, LeadDyno, Omnistar, Semrush, Tapfiliate, TitanAFFILIATE, Tracknow, TubeBuddy and UpPromote, were each named in exactly 1 of the 6 answers, 17% apiece. In a category this crowded, being named even once is the line between existing and not existing inside an AI answer.
The shortlist changes the moment a buyer says "free" or "affordable"
This is the part worth reading twice. Awin and Impact were each named in 4 of 6 answers, but in zero of the two price-qualified questions. Neither the "best free affiliate marketing software" answer nor the "most affordable" answer mentioned either one. The two biggest networks own the generic framings and vanish the instant a buyer types a price word.
The bare "best affiliate marketing software" question returned the widest list, 8 products in one answer: FirstPromoter, Trackdesk, Rewardful, PartnerStack, Impact, Awin, Post Affiliate Pro and TitanAFFILIATE. TitanAFFILIATE showed up here and nowhere else, its only appearance in the entire run of six.
"Best free affiliate marketing software" returned a completely different 4-product set: Systeme.io, UpPromote, Trackdesk and Tracknow. Two of those, UpPromote and Tracknow, appear in the free question and no other. "Most affordable" returned a third set of 7: Trackdesk, Omnistar, GoAffPro, Systeme.io, Post Affiliate Pro, Semrush and TubeBuddy, with Omnistar, GoAffPro, Semrush and TubeBuddy each surfacing only under "affordable." Even "free" and "affordable," which sound like the same intent, share only two names across their two answers: Trackdesk and Systeme.io.
Trackdesk is the exception that proves the rule. It was named in 4 of 6 answers and is the only top product that appears in both the generic questions and the price-qualified ones, showing up under bare "best," "small teams," "free" and "affordable." Systeme.io does the opposite: 2 of 6 answers, and only ever in the "free" and "affordable" questions, never in a generic "best." The word a buyer chooses decides which of these two products they meet.
"Best for small teams" pulled in two names that appear nowhere else, Tapfiliate and LeadDyno, inside a 7-product answer. And the vaguest, most personal-sounding question, "what affiliate marketing software should I use," collapsed to the safest 4 names in the set: Rewardful, Post Affiliate Pro, Awin and Impact, every one of which also appears in other answers. Ask loosely and you get the established shortlist. Add one qualifier and a different half of the market walks in.
The source map: Reddit and G2 sit behind every answer
Two domains fed all six answers: reddit.com (6 of 6) and g2.com (6 of 6). Every single answer in this category leaned on both a community thread and a review directory. So on the question of whether review directories show up here, the answer is a firm yes: G2 was behind all 6 answers, with Capterra and Gartner each behind 2 of 6. That is not true in every category we measure, and it changes where a vendor should spend effort.
Community discussion carried as much weight as the directories: reddit.com in 6 of 6 and quora.com in 2 of 6, plus youtube.com in 3 of 6. Roundup and blog pages filled the rest, led by pipedrive.com in 4 of 6, then mailshake.com, fatstacksblog.com, irev.com and remotecompany.com at 1 each, out of 15 source domains in total.
Here is the finding that should change how a vendor in this category thinks. Four vendors had their own website cited as a source and got their product named in the answers: Trackdesk (trackdesk.com behind 4 answers, product named 4 times), Rewardful (rewardful.com behind 4 answers, named 3 times), Post Affiliate Pro (postaffiliatepro.com behind 3 answers, named 3 times), and Systeme.io (systeme.io behind 1 answer, named twice). Their own published comparison and roundup pages are being read by the assistants and repeated back as recommendations.
The counter-example is just as telling: pipedrive.com sat behind 4 of 6 answers, more than most vendors managed, yet Pipedrive was never named as a product, because it is a CRM running affiliate roundups, not an affiliate tool. A source page does not have to be a competitor to decide who gets recommended. An adjacent company's blog can put four rivals on the shortlist and none of its own.
What a vendor here would do to get named
Nothing in this data rewards market share directly. What gets a product named is presence in the exact pages the assistants read, and for this category that list is short and specific: a real thread on reddit.com (behind 6 of 6 answers), a live G2 listing (behind 6 of 6), and coverage in the roundups that keep recurring (pipedrive.com behind 4, youtube.com behind 3). A product absent from those pages was, with few exceptions, absent from the answers.
The vendor-domain finding points to the most controllable lever. Trackdesk, Rewardful and Post Affiliate Pro each got their own domain counted as a source and each landed in the answers 3 or 4 times out of 6. Publishing a clear, honest comparison page on your own site is one of the few moves entirely in your hands, and in this measurement it lined up with getting named. The rest are slower but concrete: earn genuine Reddit mentions, keep your G2 and Capterra entries current, and get into the specific roundups that already rank.
Where Glotier fits
Glotier does not sell affiliate marketing software, so we are correctly absent from every one of these 6 answers, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. We built this measurement for a different reason: it is exactly what we run for a customer's own category. Point us at the questions your buyers ask and we show you who ChatGPT and Gemini name, how the shortlist shifts across "best," "free," "affordable" and "for small teams," and the source pages behind each answer, so you know precisely where to show up.
If you sell in this space, the same check for your own product takes about a minute, needs no account, and is free.
