Who ChatGPT and Gemini recommend for content marketing platforms

We put 6 buyer questions about content marketing platforms to ChatGPT and Gemini. One tool tied at the top, each named in 4 of 6 answers, and none in all six. Here is the full list, the pages the answers were built from, and what it means whether or not your product is on it.

Hootsuite was the product ChatGPT and Gemini named most often when we asked for the best content marketing platform, showing up in 4 of the 6 answers we measured (67%). We ran six versions of the question through ChatGPT and Gemini on 3 August 2026, gave each answer one live web search, and logged every product named and every source cited. Nothing else matched Hootsuite's 4 out of 6.

Two products tied for second: HubSpot for Marketers and Semrush, each named in 3 of the 6 answers (50%). After those three the field flattened fast. Nine more products were named in exactly 2 of the 6 answers, and a long tail of 12 products showed up just once. So the "consensus" is thin: only three names cleared the halfway mark of six.

The shortlist, by the numbers

One caution before the counts. Several brands were named under more than one label, and we kept them separate rather than merge numbers the measurement never combined. HubSpot appeared as "HubSpot for Marketers" in 3 answers and as plain "HubSpot" in 2 more, and its "Marketing Hub" and "Content Hub" product names each surfaced once. Canva split three ways: "Canva Enterprise" (2 answers), "Canva Pro" (1) and bare "Canva" (1). Optimizely appeared as both "Optimizely CMP" (2) and "Optimizely Content Marketing Platform" (1). Add those up in your head and HubSpot and Canva are far stronger than any single row shows, but we are reporting what the assistants actually typed.

How six near-identical questions gave six different shortlists

The six questions were close cousins in plain English, yet the answers barely overlapped. The bare "best content marketing platforms" question named 8 products. Re-asked as "best content marketing platforms for small teams", it returned a different 7-product list, and only Hootsuite carried over by name. The "small teams" wording alone introduced four products that appeared nowhere else in the whole study: Brevo, CoSchedule, HeyGen and Vendasta, each named once.

The two questions that sound almost the same, "best free" and "most affordable", overlapped the least of any pair. "Best free" named 8 products and "most affordable" named 6, and they shared just two: Semrush and Hootsuite. The free question alone surfaced Canva, Google Gemini and Optimizely Content Marketing Platform, each named once and only there. The affordable question alone surfaced Canva Pro and Later, each named once and only there. One of the two assistants we asked, Gemini, even turned up as a named free option itself.

Canva shows how much the wording, not the shortlist, is doing the work. Asked for the "best" or for "recommendations", the assistants named "Canva Enterprise" (2 answers). Asked for "free", they named plain "Canva" (1). Asked for "affordable", they named "Canva Pro" (1). Same company, three product tiers, each one matched to the price framing of the question.

"What content marketing platforms should I use" gave the shortest answer of all, naming only 3 products: Optimizely CMP, HubSpot for Marketers and Adobe GenStudio. All three had already appeared elsewhere, so that question added no new names. The open "recommendations" question did the opposite, naming 8 products and adding three of its own that appeared nowhere else: Content Hub, Marketing Hub and Siteimprove.

For a marketer in this category, the lesson is uncomfortable. There is no single "best content marketing platform" answer to win. Six almost identical questions produced six mostly different shortlists, and one qualifier, "free", "affordable" or "small teams", was enough to swap out most of the names.

Where the answers came from

Two sites fed every answer we recorded: gartner.com and thecmo.com each appeared in all 6 of 6 answers (100%). Both are analyst and roundup pages, not the vendors themselves. Right behind them, mailerlite.com was cited in 5 of 6 answers (83%) and zapier.com in 4 of 6 (67%), both of them "best tools" roundup articles. Four pages, in other words, did most of the sourcing work.

Community threads showed up, but lightly and in a specific place. Reddit was cited once and Quora twice, 3 community citations in total, and they clustered on the money questions: both Reddit and Quora fed the "best free" answer, and Quora also fed "most affordable". When buyers ask what is genuinely free or cheap, the assistants reached for forum threads more than anywhere else.

The classic software review directories were almost absent. G2 and Capterra, the two sites most vendors watch, did not appear in a single one of the 6 answers. The closest was crozdesk.com, a software marketplace, cited in 2 of 6 answers (33%). If your AI-visibility plan rests on your G2 rating, this category's results suggest the assistants were not reading it.

Here is the insight that matters most if you are a vendor. HubSpot's own domains fed the answers and HubSpot got named. blog.hubspot.com was cited in 3 of 6 answers and hubspot.com in 1 more, and across those same answers the assistants named HubSpot, HubSpot for Marketers, Marketing Hub and Content Hub. HubSpot is, in effect, being recommended partly on the strength of its own published content. Two smaller vendors ran the same play: siteimprove.com was cited in 2 answers and Siteimprove was named in one of them, and vendasta.com was cited in the "small teams" answer and Vendasta was named in that same answer.

It does not always work. jasper.ai was cited in 3 of 6 answers, more than most sources, yet Jasper was never named as a recommended platform. Its content was feeding the answers while listing other tools. Being the source is not the same as being the pick, but it is clearly the doorway to it.

What we would do to get a platform named

The pattern across all six answers is blunt: the source list decides who gets named, not market share or reputation. Accelerator360, not a household brand, was named in 2 of 6 answers, and both of those answers were built from the gartner.com and thecmo.com roundups that fed every response. Bigger names that were not sitting in those pages did not get named at all.

So the practical list is short. Get into the four pages that did the heavy lifting here: gartner.com and thecmo.com (6 of 6 each), mailerlite.com (5 of 6) and zapier.com (4 of 6). Publish your own comparison content, because HubSpot, Siteimprove and Vendasta all rode their own domains into the answers. And seed the community threads, especially for free and cheap positioning, because Reddit and Quora only surfaced on the "free" and "affordable" questions. None of that needs a bigger ad budget. It needs presence in the specific pages these assistants read.

Every product named in at least 2 of the 6 answers. HubSpot appears twice on purpose: "HubSpot for Marketers" (3) and "HubSpot" (2) are the two labels the assistants used, and we did not merge them into a combined number the measurement never showed.

Why Glotier is not on this list

One honest note to close. Glotier is not a content marketing platform, so we are correctly absent from all 6 of these answers. We were not named once, and we should not have been. But what you just read, six buyer questions with every product counted and every source traced, is the exact thing Glotier runs for a customer's own category. If you sell in this space, the same check on "best content marketing platform" would show you which of these 6-of-6 sources mention you and which name a competitor instead. It is free, there is no account, and it takes about a minute.

The questions we asked

One live web search per question, put to serper+or:chatgpt, gemini on 2026-08-03. 6 of 6 came back with an answer we could read. Whether a product was named is decided by looking for it in the answer text, not by asking a model for its opinion.

Questions people ask

What is the best content marketing platform according to AI in 2026?
In our 3 August 2026 measurement, Hootsuite was named most often, appearing in 4 of the 6 answers (67%) from ChatGPT and Gemini. HubSpot for Marketers and Semrush tied for second at 3 of 6 (50%) each. No other product cleared half of the six answers, so the AI consensus for the top spot is Hootsuite.
Which content marketing platforms do ChatGPT and Gemini recommend for small teams?
The "best content marketing platforms for small teams" question named 7 products: HubSpot, CoSchedule, Buffer, Hootsuite, Brevo, HeyGen and Vendasta. Four of those (Brevo, CoSchedule, HeyGen and Vendasta) were named only on the small-teams question and appeared nowhere else in the six answers, so the "small teams" wording reshuffled the list almost entirely.
What are the best free content marketing platforms right now?
The "best free" question named 8 products: Canva, Google Gemini, Semrush, Hootsuite, Ahrefs, Contently, Optimizely Content Marketing Platform and Accelerator360. Only Semrush and Hootsuite also appeared on the "most affordable" answer, so the free list and the cheap list overlapped by just 2 products despite sounding almost identical.
Do AI assistants use G2 or Capterra to recommend content marketing platforms?
Not in this category. G2 and Capterra appeared in 0 of the 6 answers. The sources that fed every answer were gartner.com and thecmo.com (6 of 6 each), with mailerlite.com (5 of 6) and zapier.com (4 of 6) close behind. Community threads were light and specific: Reddit was cited once and Quora twice, and both only surfaced on the free and affordable questions.
How can my content marketing platform get recommended by AI?
Get into the pages the assistants actually cite. Here, gartner.com and thecmo.com fed 6 of 6 answers, mailerlite.com fed 5 of 6, and zapier.com fed 4 of 6. Your own content helps too: HubSpot's domains fed 4 answers and HubSpot-family products were named across them, and both Siteimprove and Vendasta were named in answers their own sites fed. Market share was not the deciding factor; presence in the cited sources was.
