CloudZero was named in 5 of the 6 answers we ran for cloud cost management software, more than any other product and the only name to clear half of the questions. We put six buyer questions to ChatGPT and Gemini on 2026-08-06, gave each one live web search, and wrote down every product the answers named and every source domain they leaned on. This page is only that data.
The gap behind CloudZero is wide. CloudZero sat at 5 of 6 answers (83%). Nine products tied for second at 2 of 6 each (33%): AWS Cost Explorer, CAST AI, CloudAware, Datadog Cloud Cost Management, Flexera, ManageEngine CloudSpend, ProsperOps, Usage.ai, and Vantage. Every other product we saw, 13 of them, was named in just 1 of the 6 answers (17%).
Market share did not decide this. AWS Cost Explorer, the native tool from the largest cloud provider, was named in only 2 of 6 answers (33%), while CloudZero, a smaller independent vendor, was named in 5 of 6 (83%). ChatGPT and Gemini were not ranking by who is biggest.
How the shortlist changed with the wording
The six questions were close in plain English, but the answers moved a lot. The sharpest jump was the free question. When we asked for the "best free cloud cost management software," the answer collapsed to a single product, OpenCost, named in that 1 question and in none of the other five. CloudZero, the overall leader at 5 of 6, dropped out of the free answer completely.
"Most affordable cloud cost management software" pulled in three names that showed up nowhere else: ServiceNow Cloud Cost Management, Harness, and Dynatrace, each named in that 1 question only. The affordability framing, not the plain "best" framing, is what surfaced them.
The bare "best cloud cost management software" question is the only place the cloud providers' own billing tools appeared. Azure Cost Management + Billing and Google Cloud Cost Management were each named in that 1 question and never again, alongside Finout and Cloudability (IBM Apptio Cloudability), also one-question-only. AWS Cost Explorer was the exception among the native tools, showing up in 2 of 6 (the "best" and "recommendations" questions).
The other three questions each added their own one-off names. "For small teams" added IBM Cloudability (1 of 6). "What should I use" added Economize and Kubecost (each 1 of 6). "Recommendations" added CloudCheckr and ServiceNow (each 1 of 6). Add it up and 13 of the 23 named products appeared in exactly one of the six questions, so more than half the shortlist was a single phrasing away from not appearing at all.
One label caveat, because the raw data shows it. IBM's Cloudability was named twice under two different labels, "Cloudability (IBM Apptio Cloudability)" in the best question and "IBM Cloudability" in the small-teams question, once each. ServiceNow did the same, "ServiceNow Cloud Cost Management" in the affordable question and plain "ServiceNow" in recommendations, once each. We kept both labels as their own entries rather than merge them into a bigger number the measurement never recorded.
The source map behind the answers
Four domains fed every single answer. reddit.com, gartner.com, cloudzero.com, and cloudaware.com each appeared in all 6 of 6 answers (100%). If your product is missing from those four, it is already behind on this category.
Reddit was the only community thread in the set, and it was in all 6 answers (100%). Quora never appeared. The classic software review directories were missing too: G2 and Capterra did not show up once. Gartner did, in all 6 answers (100%), so analyst-style pages counted here while the review-grid sites did not.
The key insight is what the vendor domains did. Eight same-category vendor sites showed up as sources, and seven of the eight had their product named in at least one answer. cloudzero.com fed all 6 answers (100%) and CloudZero was named in 5 of 6. cloudaware.com fed all 6 (100%) and CloudAware was named in 2 of 6. usage.ai fed 5 of 6 (83%) and Usage.ai was named in 2 of 6. flexera.com, cast.ai, datadoghq.com, and opencost.io round out the seven whose own content the assistants read and then named. The strongest-named products were the ones the assistants were reading directly from source.
Being a source is not a guarantee, and the data is honest about it. pointfive.co fed 1 answer (17%) but PointFive was never named, the only vendor domain of the eight to miss. wiz.io fed 4 of 6 answers (67%) without Wiz being named, because it appeared as a roundup publisher rather than as a cost tool. That roundup layer, wiz.io (4 of 6), openmetal.io (3 of 6), and solutionsreview.com (1 of 6), shaped the lists without their publishers being on them.
What a vendor in this category would do to get named
Get into these exact sources, because the source list, not the market, decided the answers. In practice that means the four every-answer domains first: a live Reddit presence, a Gartner listing, a strong page on your own domain, and a mention in CloudAware's comparisons, since those four each fed 6 of 6 answers.
Then work the roundups that fed the rest: flexera.com (4 of 6), wiz.io (4 of 6), openmetal.io (3 of 6), and solutionsreview.com (1 of 6). CloudZero is the template. Its own domain plus its spread across the sources lines up with being named in 5 of 6 answers, while much larger AWS Cost Explorer, thin in these particular sources, landed in only 2 of 6.
Match the phrasing to your reality too. If you have a genuine free tier, the free question is winnable: it named only OpenCost this time, in 1 of 6. If you compete on price, the affordable question surfaced Harness, Dynatrace, and ServiceNow Cloud Cost Management from nowhere, each in that 1 question, so the price-focused sources are worth owning outright.
The full list, counted
Every product named in 2 or more of the six answers is below. Share is the share of the six answers a product appeared in. Beneath this cut, 13 products were each named once, including the double-labelled IBM Cloudability and ServiceNow entries noted above, which we did not sum.
| Product | Named in | Share |
|---|---|---|
| CloudZero | 5 of 6 | 83% |
| AWS Cost Explorer | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| CAST AI | 2 of 6 | 33% |

Where Glotier fits
Glotier does not sell cloud cost management software, so we are correctly absent from all 6 of these answers. We would not want to fake our way onto a list we do not belong on.
But this measurement is exactly the thing we run for a customer's own category: the same six-question fan-out, the same named-product counts, the same source map, pointed at whatever you sell. The check is free, there is no account, and it takes about a minute.
