Vimeo was the only product ChatGPT and Gemini named in all six of our answers, a clean 6 of 6. On 2026-08-06 we put six buyer questions about video hosting platforms to both assistants, one live web search each, and logged every product named and every source cited. Vimeo stood alone at the top.
Two products tied just behind it. Wistia and YouTube were each named in 5 of the 6 answers, 83% apiece, and no other platform cleared half. The next tier down, Loom, Streamable and Vidyard, landed 3 of 6 each, 50%.
The tail is long and thin. Across the six answers, 20 distinct product names came up, and 12 of them were named exactly once, 17% each. A single mention means one phrasing of the question surfaced that product and no other phrasing did.
The shortlist changed with every phrasing
The wording of the question decided the shortlist far more than any product's reputation did. The bare "best video hosting platforms" query returned 8 names: Vimeo, Vidyard, YouTube, SproutVideo, Wistia, Loom, Muse.ai and Streamable. The "best free" query returned just 3: Vimeo, Streamable and ScreenPal. Same category, same day, less than half the list.
The "best free video hosting platforms" answer is the tell. It named only Vimeo, Streamable and ScreenPal, 3 products, and it did not name YouTube at all, even though YouTube appeared in 5 of the other answers. The most obvious free option in the category was missing from the one answer explicitly about free.
"Most affordable video hosting platforms" pulled a different, budget-shaped set of 8: Vimeo, Dacast, Wistia, Gumlet, Loom, Bunny Stream, YouTube and Dailymotion. Of those, Dacast, Bunny Stream and Dailymotion appeared in this answer and nowhere else. Only four names, Vimeo, Wistia, YouTube and Loom, carried over from the bare "best" answer into the "affordable" one, so half the list turned over on the word "affordable."
Twelve products earned their single mention from exactly one sub-question each. "Best" surfaced Muse.ai. "For small teams" surfaced Brightcove and Cloudinary. "What should I use" surfaced VdoCipher and Bunny.net. "Best free" surfaced ScreenPal. "Most affordable" surfaced Dacast, Bunny Stream and Dailymotion. And the loose "recommendations" query surfaced TikTok, Twitch and Bilibili. Miss the phrasing your buyer actually types and you are invisible for it.
That "recommendations" phrasing drifted furthest from business video. Alongside Vimeo, Wistia, Vidyard and YouTube, it named TikTok, Twitch and Bilibili, 3 consumer and streaming platforms that appear in none of the other five answers. A vague question pulled vague results.
Where the answers came from
Two domains were cited in all six answers, 6 of 6 each: reddit.com and vimeo.com. Reddit was the one community source present every single time, so a public forum thread, not a vendor deck, was the most reliable input to these answers.
The review directories split. learn.g2.com fed 5 of the 6 answers, 83%, while Capterra did not appear in a single one. Quora fed 3 of 6, 50%, and Wikipedia fed 3 of 6 as well, so general-reference and community pages together outweighed any formal directory.
Here is the insight a vendor should not miss: every vendor-owned domain that fed an answer belonged to a product that got named. Vimeo (vimeo.com, 6 of 6), Vidyard (vidyard.com, 5 of 6), YouTube (youtube.com, 3 of 6), plus Cloudinary, Streamable and ScreenPal all had their own site cited, and all six were named. When your domain is in the model's reading list, your product tends to be in its answer.
Vidyard is the instructive middle case. Its own domain, vidyard.com, was cited in 5 of 6 answers, but Vidyard the product was named in only 3 of 6. Its roundup content earned the citation even in the two answers that ended up recommending somebody else.
The opposite held for the pure publishers. swarmify.com, jetpack.com and zapier.com each fed 2 answers, and webflow.com, movingimage.com and idearocketanimation.com fed 1 each, yet none of those six sites was named as a product. They are the shelves, not the stock: their role in the answer was to list other people's tools.
What a vendor here would do to get named
If you sell video hosting and you want to be named, the source list above is your to-do list, and it is not the same thing as your market share. These six answers were assembled from Reddit (6 of 6), G2 (5 of 6), Vimeo's and Vidyard's own content (6 and 5 of 6), Quora and Wikipedia (3 of 6 each), and a short stack of roundups. Being present, and recommended, in those exact places is what puts you in the answer.
Notice what did not decide it. None of the six answers ranked by revenue, install base or funding. Vimeo led at 6 of 6 because it sat in every source type at once: its own domain, Reddit, G2 and the roundups. A bigger company with no footprint in those threads would still score 0 of 6, and a smaller one that shows up in them can outrank it.
So the practical move for a marketer is concrete. Find the Reddit and Quora threads for your category, the G2 roundup, and the "best video hosting" listicles on sites like Zapier and Webflow, then get your product accurately represented in each. That is the same list the assistants read for all six answers, and on this evidence it is the list that writes the shortlist.
The full list, counted
| Product | Named in | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Vimeo | 6 of 6 | 100% |
| Wistia | 5 of 6 | 83% |
| YouTube | 5 of 6 | 83% |
| Loom | 3 of 6 | 50% |
| Streamable | 3 of 6 | 50% |
| Vidyard | 3 of 6 | 50% |
| Gumlet | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| SproutVideo | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| Bunny.net | 1 of 6 | 17% |
| Bunny Stream | 1 of 6 | 17% |
The last two rows are the same vendor. Bunny shows up in the data under two labels, Bunny.net (named once, in the "what should I use" answer) and Bunny Stream (named once, in the "most affordable" answer). We list them exactly as measured, one name each, rather than merging them into a "2" the measurement never recorded. Ten more products were each named once and sit below the table: Bilibili, Brightcove, Cloudinary, Dacast, Dailymotion, Muse.ai, ScreenPal, TikTok, Twitch and VdoCipher.
One honest note
Glotier does not sell video hosting, so we are correctly absent from all six of these answers. We are not in this category, we should not be named in it, and we did not invent a mention to pad the page.
What you just read, though, is the whole of what we do. We take your category's buyer questions, run them through ChatGPT and Gemini, record who gets named and which sources fed each answer, and hand you the source list that decides it. If you want to see your own "best video hosting platforms" moment, our check is free, needs no account, and takes about a minute.
