SE Ranking was named in all six of the answers ChatGPT and Gemini gave us, the only rank tracking tool to show up every single time. On 2026-08-04 we asked ChatGPT and Gemini six buyer questions about rank tracking software, gave each question one live web search, and recorded every product they named and every source they cited. SE Ranking hit 6 of 6. No other tool matched it.

Nightwatch was second, named in 5 of the 6 answers. Then the field thinned fast: AccuRanker and Wincher tied at 4 of 6, Semrush at 3 of 6, and the rest appeared once or twice. Twenty different products came up across the six answers, but only five (SE Ranking, Nightwatch, AccuRanker, Wincher and Semrush) were named in half or more of them. If you sell in this category, that is the headline worth sitting with: the AI shortlist is short, and two names carry it.

One note on how we counted, because the raw data has double-labelling we chose not to hide. Semrush was named 3 times, and a separate answer said "Semrush One", which we kept as its own row rather than merge into Semrush. The same happened with "SERPWatcher by Mangools" (2 answers) and a bare "Mangools" (1), and with "Rank Tracker" (2) and "Rank Tracker by SEO" (1). These read as one brand wearing two labels, so we left each count exactly as the assistants said it instead of summing into a total the answers never gave.

The shortlist changed with the wording

The most useful thing in this data is how far the answer moved when we changed a single word. Across the six questions the number of tools named ranged from 5 (for "most affordable") to 8 (for three of the questions). This is query fan-out, and it decides who gets seen.

Ask the plain question, "best rank tracking software", and you get 8 names, including both premium brands: Semrush and Ahrefs appear here next to SE Ranking, Nightwatch, AccuRanker and SERPWatcher by Mangools. Two of the 8, KeySearch and Rank Tracker by SEO, show up in this answer and in none of the other five.

Ask for the "best free rank tracking software" and the list is 6 names, with one giveaway: Google Search Console appears, and it appears only here. In the other five answers, under every other phrasing, Google Search Console is never mentioned. The word "free" by itself pulled it into the room.

Ask for the "most affordable rank tracking software" and the list shrinks to 5 names, the shortest of the six. This is the part to pin up: Semrush and Ahrefs both disappear. The two brands that anchor the generic "best" answer are gone the moment a buyer says "affordable", and ProRankTracker and JaySearch move in. Even Nightwatch, our overall number two at 5 of 6, is missing from this one question and no other.

AccuRanker and Wincher are a neat illustration of the same effect. Both were named in 4 of 6 answers, but almost mirror-image ones. AccuRanker showed up for the quality-led questions ("best", "for small teams", "what should I use", "recommendations") and was absent from both "free" and "most affordable". Wincher did the opposite: it appeared for "small teams", "free", "affordable" and "recommendations", and was absent from the plain "best". Same score, opposite triggers.

The "small teams" phrasing had a personality of its own, producing four names that appear in that one answer and nowhere else: BrightLocal, Localo, Keyword.com and Morningscore. "What rank tracking software should I use" was the only place Semrush One surfaced, and "recommendations" was the only place Moz Pro and Mangools did. Through every one of these shifts, a single product held firm: SE Ranking was named in all 6 of 6.

Where the answers came from

We logged 18 distinct source domains behind the six answers, and the pattern is not subtle. Reddit was cited in all 6 of 6 answers, the only community forum to appear (Quora never did). The rest of the weight sat on roundup and listicle pages: onelittleweb.com and yotpo.com in 6 of 6, zapier.com in 5 of 6, and marketermilk.com in 4 of 6.

Review directories barely showed, which we did not expect. G2 was cited in 3 of the 6 answers, but Capterra did not appear once, and neither did TrustRadius or GetApp. For rank tracking software, ChatGPT and Gemini leaned on Reddit and blog roundups far more than on the classic software directories.

Here is the finding we would underline. Vendors' own domains were counted as sources, and the products behind them were named. jaysearch.com was cited in 4 of the 6 answers, and JaySearch was named in 2. seranking.com was cited, and SE Ranking topped the entire list at 6 of 6. nightwatch.io was cited, and Nightwatch came second at 5 of 6. proranktracker.com was cited, and ProRankTracker was named in 2. A vendor's own comparison page is not fenced off from these assistants: it can become the citation that puts the vendor into the answer.

What actually gets a tool named

The source list, not market share, decided who was named. SE Ranking did not win because it is the largest brand. Semrush and Ahrefs are bigger names and landed at 3 of 6 and 2 of 6. SE Ranking won because it was present in the pages the assistants pulled: the Reddit threads, the roundups, a G2 listing, and its own cited page.

So if you market a rank tracker and you want to be in these answers, the work is concrete. Be in the sources that fed them: get talked about in the Reddit threads that appeared in 6 of 6 answers, get into the roundups the assistants actually read (onelittleweb.com, yotpo.com, zapier.com, marketermilk.com), hold a G2 presence since G2 fed 3 of 6, and keep your own comparison page strong, because vendor domains like jaysearch.com (4 of 6) were cited directly. A better tool that is missing from those pages will not be named, however good it is.

Why we ran this

Glotier does not sell rank tracking software, so we are correctly absent from all six of these answers, and we would never write ourselves in. We ran the measurement because it is exactly what we do for a customer's own category: put the buyer questions to the assistants, record who gets named and which sources they trust, and hand you a clear picture of where you stand and what to change.

If you want the same read on your own category, the check is free, takes about a minute, and needs no account.

The questions we asked

One live web search per question, put to serper+or:chatgpt, gemini on 2026-08-04. 6 of 6 came back with an answer we could read. Whether a product was named is decided by looking for it in the answer text, not by asking a model for its opinion.

Questions people ask

Which rank tracking software do ChatGPT and Gemini recommend most?
SE Ranking. It was the only tool named in all 6 of 6 answers we collected from ChatGPT and Gemini on 2026-08-04. Nightwatch was second at 5 of 6, AccuRanker and Wincher tied at 4 of 6 each, and Semrush landed at 3 of 6.
What is the best free rank tracking software according to AI?
When we asked specifically for the best free tool, ChatGPT and Gemini named 6 products: Google Search Console, Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking, Wincher and Nightwatch. Google Search Console appeared only in this free question and in none of the other five answers, so 'free' is the word that surfaces it.
What is the most affordable rank tracking software?
The 'most affordable' question returned the shortest list of the six, just 5 names: Rank Tracker, SE Ranking, ProRankTracker, Wincher and JaySearch. Semrush and Ahrefs both dropped out entirely once we asked for affordable, and so did Nightwatch, which otherwise scored 5 of 6.
Which rank tracker is best for a small team?
The 'for small teams' answer named 8 tools: Nightwatch, AccuRanker, SE Ranking and Wincher, plus four that showed up only for this question and no other, BrightLocal, Localo, Keyword.com and Morningscore.
Do AI assistants use G2 and Reddit to pick rank trackers?
Reddit yes, G2 partly. Reddit was cited in all 6 of 6 answers by ChatGPT and Gemini, while G2 appeared in 3 of 6 and Capterra did not appear at all. The heaviest sources were roundup pages: onelittleweb.com and yotpo.com in 6 of 6, and zapier.com in 5 of 6.
