Profisee and Reltio tied at the top of this category, each named in 5 of our 6 answers. We put six buyer questions about master data management software to ChatGPT and Gemini on 2026-08-06, gave each question one live web search, and wrote down every product the assistants named and every source they cited. Profisee and Reltio were the only two products to reach 5 mentions.
The drop after the top two is steep. Informatica and Semarchy were each named in 3 of 6 answers (50%). Below them sat a cluster of four products named in 2 of 6 answers each (33%): Celigo, Maextro, Microsoft Dynamics with Azure, and Stibo Systems. Every other product, sixteen of them, was named exactly once (17%). Across all six answers the assistants named 24 different products.
Three brands were split across two labels each, which quietly cost them mentions. Informatica was named 3 times as "Informatica" and once more as "Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud". Semarchy was named 3 times as "Semarchy" and once as "Semarchy Data Platform". Stibo Systems appeared twice as "Stibo Systems" and once as "Stibo Systems MDM". We keep these as separate rows below because that is how the assistants said them. If you merged each brand's labels, Informatica and Semarchy would both reach 4 of 6 and Stibo 3 of 6, but the data as measured does not show a single combined number for any of them, so we do not invent one.
The fan-out: one word rewired the whole list
The six questions read almost the same in plain English, but the shortlists behind them are not. The bare query "best master data management software" returned 7 names: Semarchy Data Platform, Reltio, Informatica, Profisee, SAP NetWeaver MDM, Maextro, and Viamedici EPIM. Three of those, SAP NetWeaver MDM, Semarchy Data Platform, and Viamedici EPIM, showed up in that one question and nowhere else.
"Most affordable master data management software" snapped straight back to the leaders. That answer named only 4 products: Profisee, Semarchy, Reltio, and Stibo Systems. Three of the four most-named products in the entire run reappeared here, so in these assistants "affordable" still points at the big established names.
"Best free master data management software" is where the list breaks completely. That single answer named 8 products, and not one of them is Profisee, Reltio, Informatica, or Semarchy, the four products that dominate every other question. Instead it returned SAP Master Data Governance, Boomi, Stibo Systems MDM, Akeneo PIM, Lobster Data Platform, Microsoft MDS, Microsoft Dynamics with Azure, and Celigo. Six of those eight, SAP Master Data Governance, Boomi, Akeneo PIM, Lobster Data Platform, Microsoft MDS, and Stibo Systems MDM, appear in this free question and no other.
The "for small teams" question pulled in its own one-off names too. Of its 7 products, Precisely EnterWorks, dbt Core, and Fivetran each appear only in that answer. dbt Core and Fivetran are data-pipeline tools rather than classic MDM suites, so the small-team framing quietly widened what counted as the category. The "what should I use" question added IBM and Syndigo as one-time names, and "recommendations" added Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud and OneTrust, each in a single answer.
The practical read: a vendor could be named in 5 of the 6 phrasings and still be missing from the exact one a budget-limited team is most likely to type. Profisee and Reltio own the category on every framing except "free", where they score 0 of 1. If your buyers ask about free options, the winners are a different set of eight.
The source map: who the answers were built from
Three domains fed every single answer: gartner.com, reddit.com, and verdantis.com each appeared in 6 of 6. One analyst site, one community forum, and one industry roundup, cited in every question we asked. In total 17 distinct domains showed up across the run.
Reddit was the only community forum in the mix, and it was in all 6 of 6 answers. No Quora, no Stack Overflow appeared anywhere in the data. If you want to move what these assistants say about MDM, Reddit threads are not optional, they are in every answer.
The key insight is the vendor's own domain. profisee.com was cited in 5 of 6 answers, and Profisee the product was named in those same 5 of 6, absent only from the free question where its domain was also absent. The company's own pages are directly feeding the answers that name the company. semarchy.com told the same story on a smaller scale, cited in 4 of 6 answers with Semarchy named in 4 of 6. informatica.com and ibm.com each fed 1 answer, and Informatica and IBM were named in those same questions.
One domain fed every answer without ever getting its own product picked: verdantis.com appeared in 6 of 6, yet no product called Verdantis was named once. That page was supplying list and overview context, not winning the recommendation. Being cited as a source and being named as a product are two different outcomes, and Profisee is the example of getting both.
Review directories barely registered. G2 (g2.com) appeared in 2 of 6 answers, both on the "free" and "recommendations" questions. SoftwareReviews appeared in 1 of 6. Capterra did not appear at all, 0 of 6. In this category the analyst plus community plus roundup stack outweighs the peer-review directories that dominate other software niches. The remaining sources were roundup and blog pages: thectoclub.com and ovaledge.com at 3 of 6 each, fortegrp.com at 2 of 6, and single appearances from dataversity.net, estuary.dev, alation.com, atrocore.com, and datamanagement.ai.
What a vendor here would do to get named
The list of sources, not market share, decides who gets named. Profisee did not appear in 5 of 6 answers because it is the biggest MDM vendor. It appeared because gartner.com, reddit.com, verdantis.com, and its own profisee.com were the pages the assistants read, and Profisee is present and recommended across them.
So the work is concrete. Be in the three domains that fed all 6 answers: hold a current Gartner presence, have real Reddit threads where buyers discuss you, and get listed in the verdantis.com-style roundups. Publish the comparison and overview pages on your own domain, because profisee.com proves an owned page can feed the answer that names you. And do not assume G2 or Capterra will carry you here, because in this run they were cited twice and zero times.
There is one more move the fan-out makes obvious. Because "free" returns a completely different eight products, a vendor who wants that traffic needs content built for the free and entry-tier framing specifically, on the pages the free answer actually pulled from: g2.com, thectoclub.com, atrocore.com, dataversity.net, and datamanagement.ai. Winning "best" did nothing for "free" in this category.
The full list, counted
| Product | Named in | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Profisee | 5 of 6 | 83% |
| Reltio | 5 of 6 | 83% |
| Informatica | 3 of 6 | 50% |
| Semarchy | 3 of 6 | 50% |
| Celigo | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| Maextro | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| Microsoft Dynamics with Azure | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| Stibo Systems | 2 of 6 | 33% |
| Akeneo PIM | 1 of 6 | 17% |
Akeneo PIM sits at the top of a sixteen-way tie: it and fifteen other products were each named exactly once (17%), including the two split labels Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud and Semarchy Data Platform.
Glotier does not sell master data management software, so we are correctly absent from all 6 of these answers. We would not want to be named here, that would mean the measurement was wrong. But this page is exactly what we run for a customer's own category: the six buyer questions, the products named, the share of answers each earned, and the source pages behind every one. If you sell in this space, your own name already has a number like Profisee's 5 of 6, or a 0, and it is worth knowing which. The check is free, needs no account, and takes about a minute.
