GEO, generative engine optimization, is one job said plainly: when a buyer asks ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity for the best tool in your category, get named instead of your rival, and find out when you are not. This is a roundup of the tools that measure that, grouped by what they actually do rather than what they advertise. We make Glotier, so we put it first and are straight about where each of the rest fits.
The short version: an assistant answers by reading the pages that already rank, so GEO is not a separate discipline bolted onto SEO. It is the same work with one measurement added, whether you landed in the answer. A GEO tool earns its price on that measurement and on the source list behind it, the part that tells you where a rival was named and you were not.
Glotier
Free to start · shows the sources
Glotier asks ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity your buyers’ real questions, checks whether your product is named, and shows every source page each answer was built from, which is where a rival appears and you do not. It is the one tool here that publishes the measurements behind its own claims, and it is free to start with no card.
The Citation Agent: which of your pages an assistant can actually cite, and the fix for each
A paragraph-quality read of your pages: what an assistant can lift whole, and where a claim is missing its source
An X agent and a Reddit agent: the live threads worth answering in your category, with a reply drafted for each
A daily check, and an article written from what it measured that day, ready to publish
The same buyer questions re-asked every day, with every source page behind each answer
Most tools in this space report a single number, a visibility score, and stop there. A score with no source behind it is a horoscope. The five things below are what separate a measurement you can act on from a number you can only worry about.
1. Ask the real assistants, not a proxy
The answer that matters is the one your buyer sees in ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity. A tool that infers visibility from a keyword model, rather than putting the question to the assistants themselves, is measuring a different thing and calling it the same name. Ask the panel your buyers ask.
2. Show the source pages, not just a score
An assistant builds its answer from a handful of pages it retrieved. The list of those pages is the whole game: it tells you which roundup, forum thread or rival’s page decided the answer, and therefore what you would have to be on to change it. A tool that hides the sources is asking you to trust the score on faith.
3. Separate retrieved from cited
Being read is not the same as being quoted. OpenAI and Anthropic both document the difference between the pages a model consulted and the smaller set it visibly cited. A GEO tool that collapses the two overstates your position, and the fix for a page that is retrieved but not cited is different from the fix for a page that is never retrieved at all.
4. Track the same questions over time
One check is a snapshot. The value is in the trend: the same frozen questions, run on a schedule, so a change in who gets named is a signal rather than noise from a reworded prompt. If the question set moves every week, nothing it reports can be compared to last week.
5. Be checkable
The category is full of confident numbers with nothing behind them. The one honest test of a GEO tool is whether it can show you the evidence for its own claims, the answers, the sources, the dates. A vendor that cannot is selling a feeling.
What we measured, 31 July 2026
Of 259 domains AI cited in the AI visibility category on 31 July 2026, 235 allowed every AI crawler.
18 of 244 of those sites block GPTBot but allow OAI-SearchBot, leaving ChatGPT search while opting out of training.
Only 5 of 259 cited domains block an AI search crawler by name, and all four are large publishers.
Sample: every domain an assistant actually cited across our own checks, not a top-100 list. Blocked means a whole-site disallow for the matching group, so partial rules are not counted and these figures understate blocking. 0 domain did not answer and is excluded rather than counted as open. How we measure
GEO-native answer trackers
Built around AI answers first. A good fit when generative search is the channel you care about most. Most do not watch your Google rank, so pair them with an SEO tool if you still want to know where you sit on the search results the assistants read from. Check each engine list and price on their own site; this part of the category moves fast.

An assistant does not rank the whole web when it answers. It retrieves a small set of pages for the specific question, reads them, and writes an answer that names what those pages support. So getting cited is two problems in sequence: being in the retrieved set, then being the clearest thing to quote once you are there.
Retrieval rewards pages that already rank and pages that carry the specific claim being asked about. Citation, the visible quote, rewards something narrower: a sentence that means something on its own. Anthropic documents its citation payload as up to 150 characters of your text, and OpenAI anchors each citation to a span of the answer. The unit that gets quoted is a sentence, not a page, so a claim spread across three paragraphs that depend on each other has nothing an assistant can lift.
We see this in our own traffic. In one week our page beacon counted 6 real human visitors sent by an AI answer, 5 of them to pages built from our own measurements and 0 to a page that sells. The assistants sent people to the pages that carried a number worth quoting, not to the pages that carried an offer. That is the whole GEO playbook in one line: publish something worth quoting, on a page an assistant can quote in one sentence.
What GEO tracking costs here
The free check is the front door: run it on any site and see whether the assistants name you, with the sources, no card. When you want it watched over time, Glotier starts at $9.99 a month for one product and $39 a month for 3, with no enterprise contract and no sales call. You get the source-level measurement that the enterprise trackers charge into the thousands for, at the price a working team can actually sign off.

A GEO tool measures whether AI assistants name your product when someone asks them for the best option in your category, and shows which source pages each answer was built from. GEO stands for generative engine optimization.
Is GEO different from SEO?
They are the same underlying work with two scoreboards. An assistant answers by reading pages that already rank, so good SEO is most of GEO. The part SEO tools miss is measuring whether you actually landed in the answer.
Do I need a separate GEO tool if I already do SEO?
You do not need a separate GEO budget, you need the one measurement your SEO stack does not report: did ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity name you, and from which sources. That is the gap a GEO tool fills.
How much do GEO tools cost?
They range from free checks to enterprise contracts in the thousands per month. Glotier is free to start with no card, and its first paid plan is $9.99 a month for one product, with no sales call.
Can I check my GEO visibility for free?
Yes. Glotier runs a free check that asks the three assistants your buyers' real questions and shows whether you are named and which pages the answer cited, in about a minute with no signup.
